I have put money down for a 6MT with every option included, as time goes by I am getting antsy and considering that maybe a Journey with sport and all other options may be a better choice, since it will be my primary vehicle. In either case, with the sport option, wheels are different.

So the question I have is:

Given that with the sport option, the rear tire size different and also considering that I want the 4-wheel active steer, there may be some dependence on wheel size for the 4-wheel active steer to work properly, what options do I have for winter tires? (living in WI)

Currently, I have a Nissan Altima SE-R with a set of 18" summer wheels (RE050s) and a separate set of winter wheels that are also 18" with Pirelli Winter Sports. The lug pattern on the Infiniti and Nissan are the same, so I should be able to re-use the $1800 winter investment I made on the new G37. (I know G35 Coupe owners used same wheels/tires as I have.)

However, the dealer insists that I must buy a set of new wheels (tire&rims) from them to match the summer G37 sizes and that using my wheels could mess up the active steer and other wheel sensors and void the warranty?

Can anyone advise? It is much appreciated.

PS. If I want an automatic, I can get it now, however ,have to wait till mid-Sept for the fully loaded MT.

As dumb as it seems, I'm thinking about picking up a lease on a small SUV like a Dodge Nitro or Jeep Liberty. I saw a lease for $89 a month with a $2500 down payment. we'll see.

As for what the dealer says, I can't say for sure.. but he might be just covering his own arse. I guess it could affect the active steer (really wishing I didn't get it). However, I just can't see a set of tires voiding the warranty.

The four-wheel steering part of the system should not have a problem with same or differing tire widths; I don't know if anyone knows enough about the "active" part of the system to know how that will respond. Then again, it is offered on the G35 Sedan Sport models, so those owners might have a better idea. The owner's manual has no mention of the issue in the 4WAS section.

The wheel sensor the dealer mentioned is probably for tire pressure? I would think the sensors could be removed from the OEM wheels?

If you get snow in WI which I'm sure you do, i wouldn't drive the G37. Get a winter beater and take it off the road for the Winter. That's what i do because the winters in MA is fairly nasty. No way would i bring a rear wheel drive in the snow...
