Now that I live in a bleak, frozen wasteland, I figured I'm going to need a winter project.

Enter: known as the Big Red Pig, the Honda XR600R. It's clean, it appears well maintained, and best of all? It's plated. Oh, and it has the HRC 628 hi-comp piston in it. So really it's an XR628R. Shoulder-dislocating pooooooower. Over the winter I'm going to add a Trailtech unit, hand-guards, do some suspension work, and see where that takes me.

It'll make a pretty wild dual-sport.

NICE. I've got an '84 XR500 and the torque off the line is insane. I can't imagine needing MORE.

I'm a firm believer in overkill.

Ah, the dual sport, the worst of both on-road and off-road!

When you say trailtech, are you talking about their speedo kit or a light kit?

I'd definitely recommend a light upgrade for that thing. They all have horrible lights for any night riding.

It's actually a plated enduro, so to call it the worst of off-road is a little misleading. The BRP has quite the off-road racing pedigree. One of the reasons I bought it instead of the dual-sport/adventure XL600/650, DR650, KLR650, etc. It weighs less than even the ubiquitous DRZ-400, yet makes considerably more power.

Trailtech's speedo kit. It's already got a Baja Designs lighting upgrade.
