That time of year is quickly approaching us in Toronto. Does anyone have the official Nissan Versa Winter Mats? Are they my best bet or should I go with a third party mat. They charge $90 in Canada for the Versa Mats. Don't want to get the floor all muddy yet, the car's too young.

I have bought heavy rubber (all-weather) floor mats for my last three vehicles from Wal-Mart. The ones I get from there are really nice and a fraction of the cost. If I remember correctly, I think they are in the ballpark of around $30 or so for all 4. I haven't gotten them for the Versa yet, but I will be very soon.

I was in Advanced Auto Parts last week and they had some decent ones for about $30. They had to be cut to size but that's no big deal.

Or you could buy REALLY EXPENSIVE ONES like I did. Here's what you do, buy a Versa...then total it. Buy a new one and take the mats from the old one so you have a "spare set". All in all they only cost me about $15,000 (well they cost my insurance company that much...I only paid my $500 deductible...I wouldn't have bought the mats again, but when I bought the new Versa there was a question of being able to retreive the mats from the first one...)

OK, enough real life humor, you can buy cheaper ones (I think Rubermaid sells a nice set) that are nice and deep for snow and mud at Wal-Mart.

Go with PantsSavers. That's the mat designed by a Canadian for Canadian winters.

Other ones like Michelin Extreme or Rubbermaid are either too small or aren't thick enough.

Yes, I have the Nissan Versa winter mats in my Versa. Got them when we bought the car. Color choices were limited, if I recall correctly, black was the only choice. The mats seem to be pretty decent quality. They have a nice soft rubber texture to them. The lip around the outside of the mats are not real high for trapping a ton of melted snow, but not bad. They cover most of the floor area, less so in the back seat area. Overall, I am glad I got them.

My preference for bad weather mats would be the husky mats, like I have in my Tundra. They cover the entire floor area from edge to edge and can hold a lot of water. The texture of those is a somewhat hard plastic, but very effective. I would be surprised if they are available for the Versa.

I have the winter mats by Michelin that they sell at Costco. They are really thick and deep and look great. I've gotten compliments on them! They cost $35 for the set of four (at Costco).
