Well. sorta..

I ordered these around the beginning of Dec, took a while to come but with the insane price some of these came out to be it was well worth it.

Special Thanks to Adam at z1auto for the ridiculous discount on the diff.
Image

oem Nissan Final drive 4.083: I figured if I was never going to turbo the car this would be the next best thing, for me at least. I think this is the fd out of the Frontier truck. Just in case i do go with the f/i route i will keep the stock ring and pinion. Maybe even swap for the longer 3.3's found in the automatic Z's.
Image

Quaife 1.5 limited slip, for the price Z1 offered (way less then 1k) why not. And it's the best match if you just so happen to have a Base model 350z. "Drop in installation"
Image

JWT clutch/flywheel kit. stage 1. Originally I only intended to get one of these because my stock clutch is already starting to go, almost made it 100k miles. (currently at 96,xxx) Decided to go with this kit because of price and hearing nothing but positive reviews about them. Its basically an oem clutch with a stronger clamping force.

Image

At Z1 auto they offer a recommended install kit for Z's with higher mileage. Basically comes with everything you need for a peace of mind lsd/final drive swap. Being passed 90k i decided to invest in the kit. Some of the stuff it comes with: ring gear bolts, new output shaft bearings and new output shaft seals.

Image

And last but not least, license plate frames. (+32whp/23tq)

Image

Yes, I have done a few writeups in the day. But i think i'll be leaving this one installation to the pros.

(In the DIY sticky, you can find a helpful thread that goes through the process of a home installation of the quaife lsd.)

End of line.

I only have to run a rear plate in TN, I guess my numbers would be roughly half of that. :)

Nice choices! These are almost exactly the same upgrades I've been thinking of. I'm over 100K and waiting for the stock clutch to tell me it's ready for a break anytime now. Are you upgrading your clutch line and using a cro-moly pivot ball when the clutch goes in?

I'm happy to see that Quaife now has a kit that can use the output shafts from the OEM VLSD instead of me having to potentially look around for the OEM output shafts from the base model Z.

I know you said you're having someone else take care of this, but are you going to be around when it's getting done? You could take some pretty pictures!

Hum. good thing you mentioned something about that pivot ball, I don't think I have that.. Might as well order one now :gapteeth:

yesh i definitely will, i've known the guys at the shop for a while now and a friend of mine works for them so it shouldnt be a problem.

I'll do my best at 'somewhat' of a writeup. :naughty:

If anyone wants a DIY on license plate frame installation, i'll be more than happy to help.

Nice!

I like your selection and your attention to detail as you get your car to the next level! :yesnod:

So you got your 1.5 way LSD for under 1 k?
I remember in 2004 paying 1300-1500 Bucks for a Nismo 1.5 way for my S13 from a Nico sponsor.
Is Z1 a sponsor here now?

Is this a winter sale or a pemranent price?

Fred..:)

(Will always drive Z33)

Nope, they are not unfortunately..

Come to think of it, I'm not sure..i wasn't informed of any sale. I was ready to pay that advertised discounted price, then the sales rep knocked it down even lower..way lower.

Along with a camber kit, and the cut springmount mod these should be the last bits I get for my car for a while.

Next up might be better brakes and brake lines, and 06-08 headlights if I can ever find them.

Update: Now the front tires match the rears.

The almighty Potenza RE-11.

I had the rear nittos replaced like 2 weeks ago with re-11's, finally topped off the front today so i had matching tires.

Some of the common problems you run into when lowering a Z, (also even just one with higher mileage.) include the wearing out of the lower control arm bushing(aka transverse link). A bad bushing can sometimes contribute to front end alignment issues causing uneven wear on tires. (Hence the reason why I Just picked up the Re-11 for the fronts not too long ago.)

btw that piece is supposed to be centered.

bushing scars from so many laps around the nurburgring.^

Luckily this part wasn't too expensive, I decided to go with whiteline LCA bushings. They retail for around $60.

Image

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures once the car was done, but here's 2 random pictures of an R35 amidst a Greddy TT kit procedure. (Horsepower Logic)

Image

Image

fyi: After a few days of getting them installed and driving a round, I do 'not' notice a difference in ride quality nor any sort of 'suppressed sound' from before.

Next up on the list that I ordered today are two front hub/bearing assemblies.
Image

Finally i can put the dreaded endless tapping noise to rest.

Hopefully once these guys are installed, the LSD and the 4.08 will soon follow.

Just put on a evo-r cf diffuser, ill post more pics later with a real camera.

And I just ordered eagle rods.

I figured since im keeping this thing till 300k miles I might as well "do twins right the first time."

So there you have it, hopefully I'll be happily boosting by summer 2013.

Like the diffuser! :dblthumb: And you should be happy with those Whiteline LCA bushings if their quality is even close to the ones I put in my S13 when I redid the LCAs, TC Rods & ball joints. All of those goodies firmed up the steering & handling to what it must have been been like new, probably better.

And when did you make the decision to go FI? Looks like I'm the sole NA holdout. :( :gapteeth:

So, are you just going hold off on installing that FD you ordered along with the Quaife then?

The 4.08 gears have already sparked an interest with a potential buyer, if it doesn't fall through I'm going to post it up on classifides..unless you're interested ;)

I wonder how awesome (or horrible) the car would be f/i along with 4.08s..

The gears paired up with some solid diff bushings makes a pretty good monster.

The transverse link bushings on the car were pretty much toast, I had to get new ones just for the sake of proper alignment :ohno:

Car looks like it's coming along nicely.
If the deal falls through for the gear set with the other guy I may be interested. Still waiting on my LSD to come in after almost 4 months now, and i have solid diff bushings in the freezer, why not go all out and do gears too.

As much as I'd love a 4.08 I can't justify it with my commute and the mileage hit I'd take. I'm having a hard time rationalizing a Central 20 3.9 FD as it is now.

Of course, if I were to get a job closer to home Central 20 also makes a 4.3! :yesnod

So since my cars been up for sale a good month or so I've done just about the next best thing anybody would have done, and decided to have my spare parts installed. (talk about doing it wrong.)

That 40th anniversary akebono kit I bought was installed at my friends shop, for the record i hate drilled+slotted rotors, and red calipers. But i got them for such a good price used I couldn't complain, and I didnt feel like powdercoating the calipers yellow anymore.

Here are a few new-ish pics of the zee.
