Hi,

I recently purchased a used 2o10 nissan versa hatchback. There has been some fairly bad weather and accidentally triggered my wipers when ice held them down. After the ice was removed the wipers would go off even when the knob is on off position. What the result if the issue. Please Help :ohno:

could be the wiper motor, the stalk or the relay. either way you probably unintentionally overloaded and overheated the circuit, either shorting the motor, or locking the switch or relay in the on position.

Can you change the wiper speed?

I cannot change the wiper speed it just randomly goes on and stops mid-way through the motion blocking my view.

next thing to do would be to either replace the wiper relay or you can test it by jumping the relay if you know how or find someone that does.

If you can get the wipers to work by replacing the relay then that was it. if that doesn't work, then have it jumped, basically remove the relay, find the 12V supply, and run a wire directly from the 12V, to the power supply to the motor. There will be several. If you can get the wipers to work that way, then it's the stalk that's bad. If the wiper motor won't turn on, or exhibits the same problem when you jump the relay, then it's the wiper motor.

It's definitely worth figuring this out, as replacing the relay is cheap, the stalk more expensive, and the wiper motor even more expensive.

Will definitely try the relay. It's currently snowing so couldn't do that today. Warranty covers the motor. Anything else I have no clue. Dealer can't look at it until next week. Which is a bummer. Just bought the car used last month.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that the relay isn't connected directly to the stalk (combination switch), it's controlled by the BCM (body control module), which is supposed to take the info from the switch and then tell the relay to turn the wipers on and off, and how often.

The service manual does address the problem of the wipers not shutting off, although it's probably easiest if you download the pdf of it yourself so that you can follow some of the links to other sections of the manual. You can find the service manual pdfs for your model year here:

http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan ... nuals.html

and you should first check out section WW for the wipers; however, you may need to grab some additional sections (or all of them!) and save them to the same folder, that way when you click on a link which points to another section, it'll find it ok.
