What's the best windshield wiper out there? I've only tried a couple brands, and they always do a poor job after less than a year. I haven't tried the factory ones.

I like the Bosch.

But then I never try to keep them longer than 4 months + clean them every month too.

Fred...:)

I wish I could remember the brand, but they bragged about them being partially graphite. I got them at Pep Boys and they lasted for years in the desert heat without any cleaning or fuss.

If you go aftermarket, Bosch is probably the best.

Otherwise, getting Nissan OEM wiper inserts is also *very* good.

I got 100% silicone blades about four years ago. They were economical to buy, costing less than Nissan or Bosch. They clean the windshield without streaks, and do not freeze in sleet or snow. At this point, the frames are starting to wear out, but the blade inserts have no wear whatsoever. Their one downside is that they work so well that in very , very light rain , when on intermittent, they get the glass so clean it dries and they squeak.

Here is the company's website. http://www.silblade.com/

They also, um, come in various colors, if you are into that......

how often are they used in the desert? with the low humidity does drime and dirt ever stick to the windshield?

I was in the Mojave N. of LA and then west Texas. 100+ all summer, then a fair amount of rain in the winter. The windshield got pretty pitted from the blowing sand. So I'd say a pretty challenging environment for wiper blade longevity.

I'm in need of wipers, mine are worn slap out. This is the only thread I found related, so I thought I'd revive it. Now, two years later what does everyone recommend? I actually still have Nissan blades. Previous owners probably just changed inserts.

You may want to try these out. I am bidding on this pair, but they are constantly listing/relisting. The seller is an authorized dealer, so he has an unlimited amount of the wipers, if you are interested.

I'll let you guys know how they turn out, when I get them installed.

OEM wipers -BLOW-.

I'm with Fred on this one, Bosch is good. During that torrent at the Kentucky meet, they did a damn good job keeping gallons of out of my way. This past winter they were extremely reliable in some of the most unpredictable midwest conditions.

The OEM blades I had were -worse- than the ones I replaced.

Such a cheap item, so critical to safety.

Whatever ones I have whistle like a mofo from 70+ mph.....very annoying. I'll have to try the Bosh if they are good.

I like the OEM wiper inserts, and find they are longer lasting than most aftermarket ones. Switched both Seattle cars to The silicon ones they have at some Costcos, complete with arms. Only down side is they don't carry 21" length, but that only affects the bottom 1" of sweep on the driver's side of the G50. Arm design and fit is superb and easily equal to OEM.

Never seen those! Have to look. Are they supposed to last longer or move water better? Or are they said to do both and mow your lawn to boot?...

Like fxjackso, I strongly recommend the Silblade graphite wipers. They are excellent ... as good as Bosch, I would say. The key difference is that you can get different colors for the wiper (not the insert, of course!) and this can make for a cool look! Then you can get the Bosch inserts later (if they ever need changing!)

I'm voting for OEM blades... Changed the ones on my truck with Anco inserts from Wal-Mart a few months ago and they're already streaking. OEMs last me at least a year.

I have some ANCOs and they SUCK. They freeze in the winter, and they now streak.. Its time for replacement.....

Has anyone tried the rain-x blades...?

BTW, are the wiper refills good enough, or should you get a whole new blade assy? I threw away my OEM ones...

Good Question. I actually have the OEM blades. Can I just get refills?

I tried to replace the refills on a 95 ES300 I owned once and it was a royal pain.

It's easier to refill the blade than the entire assembly.

I get the the Nissan blade refills. they seem to last 2 to 3 years through some harsh weather(rain, sleet, freezing rain, hail, snow and summer bugs) up here before they begin streaking or need replacement in my experience.

Okay, by far hands down the best wiper blades on the market are made by PIAA, the same Japanese company that makes the bulbs and lights. I put driving lights and PIAA super white on my wifes Sentra at my favorite aftermarket shop called "Dirty Parts" in LA on a visit and got talked into them while waiting for install on the lights. THey are unreal, they never make any noise and can be used effectively wet or dry. The best by far, we've used them in a few huge rain storms and big difference. The Q will get them next trip to LA.

Are you telling me that there isn't one good mechanic shop in Northern California that you would trust to work on your car that you have to resort to driving down to LA for everything? There has got to be a good shop up here, isn't there? With the gas prices these days, I simply can't afford to drive down to LA. Got any recommendations Jeff?
