windshield wipers

I was driving one sunny day when out of nowhere my wipers turned on for absolutely no reason. I was completely unable to turn them off and to this day they are permanently running. I had to unplug the motor and when it rains, I pop the hood and plug them back in.

Anyone else with this problem, can it be fixed?

Also, I seem to have broken a small piece of plastic in the wiper switch on the dashboard. Is that insignificant or very expensive to fix?

I had the same problem, I had to wait like 3 minutes for the wipers to turn off, but somehow the problem is gone now, before the problem appeared, I did a fog light job, it might be caused by the wiring.
