Hi All,

I have a problem with the driver's side windshield wiper lifting mid-wipe at highway speeds on my 2002 I35. Its pretty dangerous b/c my wiper isn't removing water right in my line of sight, but everywhere around it. I tried changing wipers (from a beam blade Rain-X Latitude to a regular wiper blade), but the problem is still there. Just wanted to see if anyone else might know what is going on?

I was thinking could it be a lack of tension in the spring in the wiper arm? Not sure. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Could maybe be a bent wiper arm. Have you pulled them off to see if they're bent? Is the motor mounted securely?

I can only think of a couple of things that would cause this -The springs in the wiper arm or an incorrectly installed wiper blade... (since I'm going to assume your car savvy I'm saying it's the spring...

Try replacing the actual wiper arm, the spring could be done for, (especially if you / previous owner) lifted the arm up once or twice a week to clean the windshield (I'm guilty of this as I drive over 70 miles a day in the lovebug capital of the world...)

Thanks for your reply The Siath and Maximum A32.

Actually, I do lift the arm up once a week to clean the windshield at the gas station. (frankly, I'm surprised how few people care enough about outward visibility to not clean their windshield once a week at least, but that's a story for a later time).

I will spring for a new wiper arm, no pun intended.

Just curious, is this a pretty easy swap out? It looks like I just need to lift the hood and loosen the nut.

Thanks.

That should do it up.

+1 - easy job, 5 minutes (if you have to run to your garage/trunk for the tool...lol

- the wiper may have a 'boot' over the bolt - it's hinged - just lift, to get to the nut
