Post

I'm a relatively new owner of 1990 Z32 2+2 NA (manual transmission).

Front and rear windshield wipers work fine, and the pump that delivers washer fluid to the rear window works well. The pump for the windshield, however, does not work. (There's no "hum" when the switch is activated.)

I've located the reservoir, which is mounted behind the panel in front of the right front tire.

Is this the best way to access the reservoir and washer fluid pumps?

I plan on checking the electrical connections, but my sense is that I'll need to replace the pump that delivers fluid for the windshield. If anyone has done this job before, I'd appreciate hearing your experience and/or tips.

Sincere thanks for any help you can provide!!

NOTE: I realize that many of the Z32 fluid reservoirs are in the rear under the left side of the hatch. As mine is a 2+2, my understanding is that there is a single reservoir that's filled through a nozzle in the right front of the engine compartment. The reservoir also has two fluid pumps, one for the front and one for the rear. Also, hopefully I'm not asking something that's been asked before - - in searching the forum I was unable to find anything on this subject.

Do a search for the fsm. This is the bible when it comes to working on these beautiful beasts. AFIK though, you are correct.

This website has also come in very handy for me as well and has a link to the FSM.

And I don't think the pump is actually in the reservoir, but near it. I'd follow the hose coming from the spray nozzles and when you come to a cylindrical thing, that's your pump.

Windshield Washer pumps generally (as in this case) clip on to the side of the reservoir, with a nozzle protruding into the reservoir and an o-ring keeping the liquid from leaking out. If you want total access to the reservoir and pump you will need to remove the front bumper.

Thanks guys! Great information!

I was making it harder than it had to be (which I'm prone to do).

I was able to easily remove a lower splash panel between the front bumper and the front of the right front tire and, voila, there was the reservoir with very easy access to the two pumps mounted to the side of the reservoir and associated electrical connections.

Should be an easy fix! Again, much appreciation for your help.

Best regards....Mark
