I just noticed this morning that my windshield has some scratches. Clearly the scratches are caused by the wiper blades as they have the shape of the path of the blades.

On the warranty manual it says that "OE wiper blade inserts are covered for the first six
months of ownership".

It also states that "This warranty does not cover normal maintenance services
as specified in both your Owner’s Manual and
Nissan Service & Maintenance Guide such as cleaning
and polishing, wheel alignment, headlight aiming, replacement
of filters, replacement of windshield wiper
inserts, lubricants, coolant, worn brake shoes, pads,
drums and rotors and worn clutch discs, for example"

I am almost certain that the dealership will say it is wear and tear but I'm also sure the wipers caused the windshield to be scratched.

I do have coverage under my insurance so the windshield could be replaced.

It just sucks that the car only has 3000 miles. Also there is nothing that could prevent it from having the same damage again.

Thoughts?

Windshield scratches are not caused by the wiper blade itself (in most cases), but are caused by debris on the windshield and wiper blade. I think you would have a very tough time convincing Nissan to cover something that was caused by debris, and not in any way by a faulty part. If you had evidence of a faulty blade that exposed something to scratch the windshield you would have better luck. But I suspect this is more caused by the debris on your windshield not the blades themselves.

There are some windshield scratches that can be buffed out by professionals and coatings you can put on (DIY or professional) to help stop minor marks (I am not sure how heavy duty these would be for preventing any scratches though). I am not sure how bad your vehicle is, but if you can find a competent detailer they can generally buff out whatever they can (for glass) in 15-30 minutes. You can buy the cleaning/polishing products yourself, but the reviews I have read indicate that scratches are tough to remove by hand without the appropriate polisher.

I feel your pain. New car, yah kinda sucks. :gotme

At least you got the window damage out the way if you consider it that.

Just wait for the pebble/rock to hit your windshield and leave the undesirable tiny star crack. It happened almost in consecutive months around the same spot years back.

Anyways, I am use to my little friend. I did a windshield repair and I assume its fixed. Still have the star pal sitting there.

Moreover, I am now use to all the pits, scratches and abrasions from road debris, and my old eyes are use to it.

And I scratch part of my inner upper windshield with a blade, because I had to remove the sunvisor tint twice cause of inspection. Finally made it where it's legal but I scratched the hell out of it. Pissed me off but got over it.

In a year or 2 you won't even care about them of course.

But the first dent or damage is not pleasant. :werd:

you do realize, you are never going to win this? this happens on every car, even a million dollar super-car.

this is YOU using your wipers when the windshield is dirty.
