I called the dealer, the said that they cant get it. I called Pittsburgh Glass Works, they wont talk to me because I am not an installer. Rock Auto has a blue/blue windshield for approx 220 shipped. Does anybody have any experience with their windshields?

I have a licensed mercedes tech who will put in in for me as he is a close friend of mine and if he does windshields on 300k+ amg's then I have no prob having him do mine. My concern is of course fitment issues.

Thank you.

If you've got an Abra or something like that, I'd give them a call.

Call around, the non premium windshields usually run between $70-150 (for the glass only).

I got two quotes, one from affordable auto glass and one from safelite and it was 350.00. these quotes come with a warranty of work and a guarantee that it wont leak.

might be better to have them do it than my buddy that way if something gets screwed up I wont get mad at my buddy.

Its always best to go with a pro (with warranty) or do it yourself, the whole Buddy thing rarely ends well.

One thing the glass guys won't tell you.............you want NEW glass if at all possible, you can get used for $75 all day long from the yards but the issue is that the removal process degrades the glass quality and life by slightly chipping the edges getting them out, then the glass being tempered later cracks at the chip marks which are stress risers. Not all will fail but well over 50% of them can in less than a year and often in summer when it gets really hot or really cold day in winter, the glass expansion or contraction seeks the riser to crack. The slightest chip on the edge can do it.

I picked up on that pretty quick doing body repair. Some few like some Fords when they were trying to streamline the glass install process on the assembly lines are mounted in a rubber gasket and no glue or tar rope, those can come out very easily used by cutting the rubber away from the glass edge to in effect have a still new one.

Now they glue them in with kick-ss polyurethane that if they cut them out in the yards will likely break most of them right off the bat, that stuff is a killer sealant but pretty hard to get those out safely.
