Thanks to a rock being kicked up at my '94's windshield in Reno traffic this weekend, I had to have a replacement put in this morning. $330 later, I get the car home and have noticed a few things that are putting me at a little unease.

There seem to be a few nicks in the black edging around the weatherstripping that I hadn't noticed before - though they aren't anything critical - and more troubling is that it seems there's a bit of a gap in the weatherstripping at the bottom edge of the windshield underneath the wiper arms. I could easily fit a quarter or a nickel in the gap that I feel there for about six inches of the width near where the seam rests at the center of the windshield. There are also some areas where the sealant has bulged into the gap between the car's interior and the windshield, but they're not excessive - just ugly if you notice them.

I hadn't noticed these things before I took the car in, but I'm wondering if anyone else might be able to tell me if this is normal or something I have a legitimate gripe about? I intentionally paid extra to have this work done locally when I could have driven a half hour and supposedly saved $100. Though the price I had been given in Reno was a little -too- cheap.

Sounds like a quickie install. Questionable work happens a lot more then you would think. You are probably the installers worst nightmare, you're detailed! Was the installer 25 or younger?

For 330 parts and labor, you got what what you paid for......genuine Infiniti windshield is about 800 for the glass alone, and another 100-200 for the gasket/trim kit....plus labor.....why one uses their comprehensive insurance and demands oem glass.

Having the trim kit on hand to give the installer is the key to a successful install of what ever quality pf glass you decide to use.

The glass itself seems fine, it's just the particulars of the fit in regards to the sealant and gasket that are something of a problem. I'm taking it back in a couple hours and will see what they can do. As one side seems fine, it's likely they just skimped on the other.

This was actually the more expensive of my options. Even if I'd had more money to spend on it or OEM parts under warranty, the installers would likely have been just as much of a crap shoot. Going to an Infiniti dealer is pretty much impossible considering it requires a trip across the Sierra Nevadas, which wasn't something I was going to do with a cracked windshield. California's roads suck too badly for that risk.
