I'll need to replace a well cracked windshield to get the baby through state inspection. I've called several local glass shops whose pricing for the non-OEM glass is around $220, give or take. The killer is the molding that goes for 150 bucks, although I got one quote for 50. I've been told that the molding is reuseable 75% of the time. I would imagine that a cold, stiff molding would break a lot easier than one warmed up in a shop. This will be the first windshield replacement in the car's lifetime, according to the previous owner. Can anyone offer any tips that I can pass on to the replacement shop, in order to up the probability that we can save the molding? (As if they WANT to save it, ha-ha).Thanks much, Ron.

Yeah I got a quote like that for the molding too, but when the guy came to do it, he was like screw that and gave me this roller molding stuff for free... I donno what it was called but it looks just like OEM.. said the $150 molding is a waste of money. Heh, I gave the guy a $50 tip just for saving me so much money. :D

I got all those crazy high quotes too, and when the guy came out he just gave me the generic stuff for free, I was a happy camper. Total cost was around 170 dollars.
