For anyone who hasn't had to replace their Versa windshield (d*$m trucker) it's a bit pricey as no after market glass companies are making replacements yet. Parts alone plus tax for mine is $635 and change. That doesn't include what the dealer will charge for installation. Guess I'll take this opportunity to get windows tinted as well.

Oh well, such is life I guess.

Cheers,Doc

Your insurance going to cover at least part of it?

Wow that kinda pricey. I was thinking about getting a new windshield for my truck because of a few pits and one chip that I repaired. That's until I saw the $699 price tag for a factory windshield. And that's a heck of a lot more glass than the V.

I saw an online comment about the Yaris windshield costing $1000.00 + USD due to the "newness" of the model.

If you have windshield coverage on your auto insurance policy that will cover it.

On my current car, I had the windshield replaced due to a star crack not repaired to my satisfaction. The insurance covered the cost of the windshield. My out of pocket expense was $100.00 USD.

A person that travels a lot I know told me once that, "if you windshield, paint, or other parts of your vehicle is damaged by a passing car, expecially a truck, copy the license number if you can, or the Company Name, the exact time of day, what location on the road, and request assistance from your State Trooper's administration office. The will then find the owner of the vehicle doing the damage and get information for you to fill against their Insurance Company, or pay the bill otherwise.

Never done that. He claims he did once. The Truck Company as a National One and they offered to have his windshield replaced with Insurance involvement.

This was in the State of Texas so it might be different in other states.

The Comprehensive section of insurance usually covers glass quite well. I had a friend who ran an auto glass company and he regularly had people who would lock their keys in the car and break out a window to get in, knowing that their insurance would cover broken glass!

Windshields are different, but with every star crack I've had the insurance companies usually gave me the option of an in-the-driveway repair for free, or I could have the windshield replaced for $100.

The hard part comes in when you have to prove that the rock fell off the truck and wasn't kicked up from normal road debris. Lots of people lose out because a company would say, "We wash all our trucks before they leave any site. There's no way a rock fell off the truck," and you have nothing to disprove it. Taking pictures of the truck (with that disposable camera that you're supposed to keep in the car) that shows caked on dirt or an uncovered load normally seals the deal.

That's interesting. Although I could see a lot of people abusing that right by blaming other imperfections on one driver they caught. I know that my insurance, Allstate, is going to cover acorn dings on my roof from this past fall.

No ... actually Nevada doesn't require insurance companies to cover for glass. And with all of the construction, etc in Vegas and Reno no company even offers it as an option you can buy. You can try and get the information from the driver who kicked up the rock if possible but that's only if they're nice enough to say okay. The best option you have is to have your glass broken by a rock on a stretch of road that was recently rechipped and NDOT will pay any damages to glass two months after the paving. After that your on your own.
