I was wondering how hard it is to replace the windsheild of my 240. I do not have a factory service manual i can go by so im pretty much blind to the whole thing. If anyone knows how to do it or has done it please give me some advice. And also what extra parts are required besides the windsheild of course.Thanks.:help

well, every car is different. But figure on at least the windshield and a urethane kit. The trim may or may not be resusable depnding on design and perhaps even age. Windshiled replacements on an S13 tend to be cheap though unless you have HUD. Call around to window shops. For what you pay for the windshield, a little more can include labor. I got a quote on an S13 windshiled many years ago and the best price I got was $175 installed with a warranty of some sort.

That depends on what coverage(s) he has and the cause of the damage.

I just replaced one on my '93 in the Mid-Atlantic area. Best price I found was $228.00 installed. They were able to re-use the moulding. I had quotes of over for $150 for the moulding alone. Get on the phone & go shopping.

See the thing is my car is my weekend fixer, therefore it is not insured. I found a local salvage yard that has a windsheild for 75 dollars in perfect condition with HUD and i figured i would save money and do it myself.

GOOD NEWS! Last year in MA a carport collapsed from the weight of snow and shattered my windshield. Insurance didn't cover it so I called around to all the auto glass emergency repair businesses.I found a company called 'Giant'. They came to the house THAT day and installed it in the driveway for less than $200. The project took them a while (and they're professionals)...can't imagine how much time you'd need to invest to get the job done. The results were great...I've been completely satisfied and received a warranty against defects in glass and installation.

Save yourself alot of grief and connect with a similar company. I think 'Giant' is nationwide. Their number is 1-800-54-GIANT.

Good Luck! Remember the old adage...don't be penny wise but pound foolish.

Unless you have money running out your ears, I wouldn't bother calling AutoLite. I got a quote(PA) to come to my house and install a 92 HUD windshield and one rear 1/4 glass. Out of pocket they wanted 900+. 'heck with that!

Personally if I were you, I'd snag that junkyard w/s! They aren't the easiest thing to find(w/HUD), and that's a pretty reasonable price. Find a local reputable shop to do it - installation shouldn't cost too much. Getting a w/s out can be a pain, so I'd let them take care of it.

If you don't get a warranty of sorts, make sure they do a good job of removing _all_ the old gasket material- I have heard/read that some cheap places will only slice it partially, leaving way to improper seating/leaking/etc.

Good luck-Jamie

Slipnfall...you should think before you write. You were talking about an estimate for the resolution to two different problems. Your thread appears to be something you wrote just to write and be (appear) right.I, as well as the previous repliers, gave much more sound advice probably, on the most part, based on personal experience.Have you, personally, bought this particular part from the scrap yard and hired someone else to install it? Don't you understand that someone on a limited budget needs to expedite resolve with the most logical, common-sense effort?...didn't you notice 'nightstepper' is a student and, probably, also works? if not, you shouldn't be pontificating. As we all know, labor is 3/4 the battle.I don't have alot of money to waste either!!! and had to do my homework on, not just the windshield, but also the l-quarter window. Frankly, I don't know where you're coming from...blowhort status?Nightstepper, obvviously, your best bet is to follow the well-given advise of the kind people who did their best to steer you in the right direction with reasonable resolve. How many of us has a cash flow that allows a devil-may-care attitude as to where our hard-earned dollars go?!By the way, whatever parts you need, you might want to visit a site that I've used numerous times and found, only by the good graces of another member to this club sharing it.It's a site which accesses you to salvage yards, etc. throughout the U.S.. You can designate auto, part, and even narrow it down to your own state. The site is http://www.Car-Part.com.Best wishes in your endeavor...and, remember...some people talk just to talk...IGNORE THEM!

First off, I don't just talk to hear[read?] myself. I posted _my_ experiance regarding pricing the glass + installation to convey how expensive the glass and service can really get. My suggestion was logical for his situation. This is a 'weekend fixer', which implies(to me at least) it's not a daily driver. Thus an expedited solution(aka $$$) doesn't make sense and time is not an issue. And yes, assuming student status, of course the cheaper the better. I doubt he will find a cheaper price for the glass.

take it for what it's worth nightstepper

I really appreciate everyones advice without you guys it would pretty tough. Anyway, I am going to go ahead and purchase the windsheild because it is dirt cheap w/HUD and then after that i will just have to weigh my options. No rush at all really just wanting you guys advice. Thanks.Lets close this thread.!
