Ive heard from several people that theres flaws with SP2? Like some programs stop working and other misc stuff. I was gonna download it when it first came out like 1-2 months ago.

Anyone here have any problems with SP2? Anyone notice any improvements or any other cons?

well i had my cousion have some networking problems with SP2 so we ended up reformating (but he had a load of other problems as well).

I personally had no problems with it. It is helpful with popups and and stoping any activeX modules unless without your permission to use it.

Don't download it! I did, and it messed up my cable internet connection. I know a fair amount about computers and i spent hours trying to setup the connection, didn't work. I call microsoft and talk to a tech for 2 1/2 hours! just to establish that i need to format my computer and reinstall windows! DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT dl sp2

SP 2 has only been an improvement for me. It adds a reliable, customizable popup blocker, and fixes a LOT of windows' gaping security issues.

But most importantly for me, it brought back support for my old pre-Win98 games like C&C: Red Alert. I've had to have two computers in good shape for a while to run my old games, but now I can run them all off of an XP system, which means the Pentuim 90 is going back in storage.

It's a lot more stable than before as well.

Although, as far as I am concerned (People will fight me to the death over this, but my opinion stands) Windows 98 Second Edition is the most stable Windows ever, by a long shot--plus, it used half the RAM that 2000 and XP use, which means you could do more with the same system. But WixXP is almost a requirement anymore.

I've got a cable internet connection which is completely and totally unaffected by the update to SP2. And my wireless network, consisting of...3 XP SP2 computers is unaffected as well. No problems.

I like SP2 it keeps all the crap off my machine. No more stupid spyware from you know what sites :P

Anyway, I installed firefox and i didn't know it was made by mozilla. Man i haven't used mozilla in years. They did an overhaul on their browser. It seems to load NICO 10x faster which is weird

Yeah I've been using Firefox for a while, and the latest edition is a BIG improvement. NICO load times, specifically, are very much reduced. Quicker than MS IE even.

Hmm...maybe I should back up my DSL connection settings just in case.

I guess I'll take a dive...wish me luck!

I've only heard bad things and the "network guys about freaked when I told them I installed it on my laptop.

No "real" issues so far, but a few things required some extra time/effort to get working afterwards.

laptops suffered the most. If you go to the Microsoft's website there is a whole list of **** you need to do before you DL SP2. SP2 somehow screws with all your video drivers and such, so if you install it before making sure everything is up to date, you get yourself into a real mess.

I've yet to DL SP2. I tried it the day it came it out, and it really screwed with my Norton. My computer lagged sooooo bad. It would sit there in the background and try to do stuff 100% of the time. I know a good deal of people that put it on their machines and had no problems and I know a good deal of people that it totally screwed them over.

Programs I remember that don't like SP2:NortonAhead NeroMcCafee (sp?)
