Hey, here's an ignorant question, but aren't the doors on the G37 without frames? What I mean is, isn't it just straight glass above the door without anything around it?
If so, I think the sales guy's explanation makes sense. It probably helps reduce air pressure against the side windows upon door closure to some degree that Infiniti engineers think it's worthwhile.
If I had to guess, I don't think this'll affect the long-term reliability of your power window mechanism. The amount the window opens is nearly negligible, and there's some give on those sorts of motors, especially for such a short burst of activity.
