Like i said, windows media player starts every fricken time I start my computer. Microsoft Help is absolutely useless and this is driving me insane. I was hoping someone here knows how to turn it off so you can save me a long, frustrating call to microsoft. There is no option in windows media player, I cant find out how to edit the programs that start with windows.

If you're running Windows XP or 2000, try checking in "C:\Documents and Settings\*your user name here*\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

There may be a shortcut to WMP in that menu. If so, that means it will start everytime you log in to Windows. Just pick the user profile that you normally use. If the shortcut is there, just delete it.

Also, try going to the start menu, click on run, and type in "msconfig". From there, click on the startup tab, and find the Windows Media player thingy. Uncheck the box, click apply, and enjoy.

(FYI - I have Win98 so this may be different, or not work at all)

Msconfig will work on XP .comes in handy also your computer will load faster if you uncheck a lot of that useless crap

Did you check in the All Users folder and default user folders too? If so, I'm totally stumped. You shouldn't need to use msconfig to stop WMP from starting up on its own.
