Hey guyz. So I have a manual everything 89 240sx . . and to convert it to power windows (which regardless of what you guys say about weight . . is just too damn gay for me) I would need a set of doors with pl/pw and then cut a hole in my firewall or get a completely new car, which I can't do since I'm in love with my 89 and have already spent about 1500 in it. I searched for the spal kits on ebay and I'm thinking . . are they good? Are they safe and how experienced do you have to be to install them? What exactly does shaved doors do? Do the doors open automatically when you press the buttin? And can you use both the shaved door handle kit and the power window kit? How bout power locks? I want to get a nice alarm system . . so how would I get power locks? I searched and read almost every post on this stuff . . but still no definities and nothing that helps my specific case... What I want is . . without replacing my car . . or it's doors . . to have power windows . . power locks . . shaved door handles . . a killer alarm system and some kind of crazy door conversion, not lambo . . but more like suicide doors or scissor doors. . . . I'm willing to spend up to about 1200 on all that I just mentioned (not including the cost of the alarm system I guess) . . when I have that money in a while . . after the sr swap . . . possible or not? Please help out. ....

if your completly lost and the words solder and iron are foreign to you, i highly suggest going to a reputable car eletronics shop and having everything done for you in one single bundle, they might even offer you a deal.

edit: yes the doors just pop open with a single button, be forwarned though, i see you live in newyork, not exactly a warm place, if you ever leave your car outside in the snow, or in freezing rain, the doors will never open, if a 180 pound guy has to grip a handle with both hands and pull on the door for 5 minuets just to get it open, the little hydrolic they intall in your car will never have the strength to pop i open.

so keep that in mind.

Hmm, Id be screwed then. That's definately a bad thing. But I wont ever keep my car out in the snow like that . . that's just torture. Well, the solenoid they give is 30lb, so that's definately not enough, but it's all you need for the spring, summer and fall.... that's why I hate winter. I guess an electronics shop can do all taht for me, but no . . I dont know how to weld or do anything like that and a lot of people act as if it's a general thing everyone should know . .when to be honest . .90% of the people dont know how to weld . .. They should have taught me that chit in high school instead of friggen european history

Adding power to your car can be a pain in the butt and I wouldnt recommend the ebay used parts from power'ed cars as they're old and the motor will more likely than not give out on you pretty soon.

Shaved doors can be made to open at a touch of a button, usually can be wired to your alarm if you have enough options (like the viper 800 which has 6 channels i believe). Power locks can be added (like mine on a 800) by adding a door lock solenoid. The windows can also be handled by most alarms (the 800 also) given the proper additional hardware.

Just look for an alarm with 6+ channels (count how many you need and figure from there, I'd recommend a minimum of 6 from what it sounds like you want to do). Do keep in mind that these alarm installs do get very involved and complicated and should be performed by a professional when doing all these types of modifications.

Note: suicide doors can fly open on the freeway if not done properly. Reason I know this is because my friends integra, which did have suicide doors (shaved no less) flew open on the freeway while doing 70mph since there was not another door in front of his to keep his door locked. There is a reason why you see suicide doors on the REAR and not the front of the car. Just a bit of a warning, not trying to say you'll get a weaksauce job done on the door and it'll fly open at 70mph but just from experience that's what I'm telling you.

Suicide doors are alright, but what looks really hot is butterfly and scissor doors. In the most recent super street I think it was . .or import tuner . .they had a pic on the top right corner of a green s13 with the doors opening not up or like a scissor but diagonally. It looked really wierd. Another wierd thing I noticed was that the car seemed to be a hatch since the back was raised and looked like the fastback.. corect me if I'm wrong... I'll find the pic and scan it when I get home.
