Window tinting question

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

It's about the doors actually. I'm toying with the idea of getting my windows tinted but my big concern is I understand the professional tinters remove the door panels to get better window coverage. I know a lot of you folks have had your EX windows tinted and I'm wondering if anyone had problems with door panels being improperly removed or replaced? I'd hate to get a modification that resulted in damage to the door panels or electronics connected to them. I guess if you break a window, the panel has to be removed but that's a necessary evil.

Any thoughts? Anyone had any problems resulting from window tinting? TIA.

I had our EX35 tinted a few weeks ago and my installer removed the door panels for the installation. Came out great - no rattles or issues. Pick a reputable shop that's done EX35's. And go with Ceramic tint (like Pinnacle), it's worth the little extra.

If you are are in Toronto, let me know and I can recommend a place.

Thanks for the feedback, canuck99, might be worth a road trip. Toronto's only 2,639 miles from my house, could be fun. BTW, my grandmother was from Quebec, so I definitely plan to make the trip some day.

Hey canuck, I'm in Toronto ! How much does it cost for the place that you're recommending ? The manager at the Infiniti Downtown is offering $199 for the windows to be tinted..

LOL. I'm sure there's a lot of good tint shops local to where you are - no need to drive for days.

$199 from a dealer is a good price. Did they mention what product they'll be using? Make sure they are using a quality product that won't fade or turn purple on you. Getting cheap tint removed is a real pain in the arse...

The place in Toronto I've used for my last few cars is Auto-links in Toronto (near Birchmount and Eglinton). Feel free to google them - they get excellent reviews. They offered LLumar FormulaOne Classic Tint (quality dyed film) for $180 and Pinnacle or Pinnacle Series (Ceramic) for $260. I went with the Pinnacle tint - better heat/UV rejection and they claim it won't fade. You can mention the forum group buy discount as I believe the prices I posted already include a $20 group buy discount.

Hi there;

Hoping somebody out there can recommend a window tint co in Vancouver.
Like the rest of you, want a quality job at a fare price.

I live in North Vancouver BC..........long shot I know but fingers crossed!

Enjoying the forum, surprising how many of us have the same questions! :crazy:

With a positive group we will go far...take it easy. :bigthumb:

The dealership did mine for around $200, even gave me a loaner while it was being done. I felt I could trust them to do a quality job since it's a lease and in their best interest not to accept a crappy film or installation.

Thanks;

I might look too see what the dealership can offer.....
Though I would think they might bring in a mobile tint service.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but would like a shop service.

Let me know how yours turn out.....plus anybody else?? Ideas??

whoever they had do it did a great job, but only time will tell if it's going to fade or discolor. All my door panels are secure, I doubt they removed any to install the film. Film pieces are usually pre-cut from a template and slid into place using a soapy water solution, then a squeegee is used to push out any extra liquid or bubbles that remain. Usually they can slip the edges of it into place under the window gaskets so panel removal isn't necessary.
