Has anyone had trouble getting their back glass tinting. The dealer where I purchased my car says that it is something wrong with the way the coupe was built that they can't get the tint to look right. Around the edges, where the little dots are; it looks awful!! After their attempt to fix it, with fail; they said that they tinted another coupe for another purchaser. They said they went with another tint company and it came out looking the same...like crap!! I just need to know if this dealer is blowing smoke or if this is a fact. Can anyone give me some help?

I've heard the rear window is pretty hard to tint over the dot matrix. But then I've also heard of it being done successfully if they sand down the dot matrix a bit. If it looks like crap don't settle until they fix it, its definitely possible.

When i went to my tint store around my area they told me about the hazards of tinting with DOT matrix. I asked them about the ratio that it happens and the guy responded saying it really depended on the skill of the tinter. So, according to the tinter i was with he was " number 1 in toronto". Not believing it but still wanting the tint i said yes with the go ahead.

It came out perfect.

Right after the tint job the back window looked like crap near the DOT matrix b/c it wasnt fully stuck. The tinter told me to let it cure for 3-5 days before concluding it was a **** job. So i allowed it to cure for the recommended days and... walah! It was fine. Looks awesome.

The dealer is def talking some smack. Maybe its a ploy to ask for more money to do a better job..?

Sand the dot matrix down a tad bit, apply tint, wait 4-5 days for it to stick good.

the trick is to sand the dot matrix down a tad bit.

good luck

Mine also came out fine. It's one piece of tint and after I got it back it was loaded with little bubbles but after 2 days they all cleared and now it looks great.

What about getting the tint in behind the brake light at the bottom of the glass? Is it possible without removing the plastic around the light?

Mine looks like heck with the glass all tinted except for this big hole at the bottom.

It has to do with the quality and the thickness of the film.

The thicker films will have difficult time adhearing between the dots.

I chose a 20% tint for the rear in a 3M film and it worked fine. I cansee just a few places where it didn't do well with the dots...butthere are very few places and it's hardly noticable.

My rear window looks like crap too. It's been about 3 weeks since I've gotten it tinted, so it's had enough time to settle. I asked the tinter about the dot matrix as well and he said, either you do it or don't , it won't be perfect. So I did it 'cause I can't stand not having tint. And it looks retarded on the top portion, theres not bubbles but it doesn't look like the rest of the window. I'm going to see if he can fix it. Would it be best if he removed it and I sand it down? What do you use to sand it down?

Easier said than done. It's pretty hard to get all your money back from a tint guy after he has done the install. Even if it looks like crap, most tint people would rather fix it, than refund your money.

I went to audioheaven.ca i think.

Just check audioheaven on Google and see whats up with them.

They charged me 200$ and it was great.

The good thing about it is that 2 weeks later they called me up to see if the tints were good. No one ever does that nowadays.

Anyways two thumbs up for them.

whaa O_O. That third brake light is super easy to remove. All you do is pull up and back and you're good. Undo the wire and it comes out completely to make the tint job super easy. Thats the first Ive heard of a shop not tinting under the light on the alti, usually its only cars that dont have it removeable (easily anyways)

I've got 15% all around. At first it looked like as*, almost like it was wet underneath the tint (the adhesive). After a couple of days, it was flawless.

my opinion....any guy who has trouble with this...aint the guy to go to...my guy (after weeks of reserch) knew exactly how to deal with it...1. he removed the plastic cover for the brake light and tinted to the bottom of the glass...2. he perfectly cut to the dots....you cant tell where they start and the tint ends...3. not a bubble or a scratch4. at the door window edge...he left a perfect 1/16 reveal so the glass wouldnt work at the edges of the tint every time u open and closed the windows..5. taped off my door windows so i wouldnt open my window for a day or so.

the last is important beacuse the opening and closing could effect the tint adhering properly as well as caues bubbles/ scratchesalso the last detail he did although small shows that he has been down the road many times and knows all the pitfalls...

the cost ...140....the time...45mins.

i went to a place that had a very good rep and got 15% on the rear. when i went to pick it up he told me he didn't like the way the top of the rear ended up after redoing it 3 times. everything else was perfect, even the side dots. I would've actually been ok with the way it was, very few imprefections, but the guy wasn't happy with his own work. he recommended we put black vinyl over it instead, apparently something that's pretty commonly done these days. i said Ok since you can't even see that part of the window when looking throught the rear view mirror. took it back another day for that and now it's absolutely perfect.

I just did mine and it looks fine. It did not stick to the glass between the matrix but I dont see anything wrong with it. Is it supposed to stick between the dots?

so I just took my car to a friends shop to have the windows tinted and I expressed my concern about the dot matrix and before I could even finish my sentence he knew exactly what I was talking about and exactly how to make it work. Like alot of the guys have said here if they dont know how to do it they're probably not the people you want working on your car.

and for the record my tint guy is using the black vinyl method...
