Hey everyone. I have a 1999 infiniti QX4 and I was going to tint out all of the windows. Bad news is, i went to the guy who was going to do the tint and he said the back windows wouldnt match the front due to the reflective color in the windows. Apparently the back windows have some sort of color that would make the tint look different. How bad does it look with the window tint in the back? and are there any other possibilities such as different types of window tint for the back windows?

Let me know, all input is appreciated... thank you.

qx4's have factory colored glass. Some are mirror and some are black. Is your mirror or black?

Both should be easy to match. If you asked for black tint on a QX4 with mirror colored glass then thats where the mismatch dilema comes into play.

Personally i dont like the mirror glass - others do. And ive seen some that were tinted mismatched. As far as "looks bad" - thats in the eyes of the beholder. Most people probably wouldnt even notice and/or care.

Your only (feasible) option is to tint over the rear factory colored glass. Another option is to replace all the glass entirely, but it doesnt make much $$ sense as your tint job will end up costing as much as the QX4 itself.

By the way, I heard that window tint will void the factory warranty on the glass. I think it is probably because with tint, the heat accumulates on the glass instead of going through into the interior.

yeah as fueler said its coloured glass. Most people think the reflectiveness is a tint that is removeable, it isnt. The mirrored glass was only on the 97-99 qx4's. The 99.5 and up were all black tint. Depending on your laws in your area, you may be able to put reflective tint on the front windows. Ive seen some reflective tint here where you can still see the drivers outline, still illegal though.

It's illegal here, but I asked the tint shop and they had no problem doing it. The police aren't too strict on tint enforcement here. My truck has very black windows and n ever even draws a stare from the boys in blue.

To the OP, I think the shop meant that he couldn't match it because he assumed that you wouldn't want reflective tint on the rear and black tint on the front. Ask him if he'll do reflective up front and whether or not that will match.

I might be switching the rear windows to clear glass so I can tint the whole car at 5%. Apparently the colored windows are way more expensive then clear windows, so I am going to take advantage of that.

The weird thing is the middle row windows are a gold color and the windows in the trunk are a silver color. The front is obviously clear. So it looks like infiniti uses more than one color for the 1999 model.

Apparently the gold color cannot be matched in the front, so if I wanted to match my car without the tint and just the reflective glass, I would need to change the middle row windows to clear or silver. Kind of weird.

If anyone else has dealt with this issue, please let me know and give me your advice. Thanks a lot for the previous posts guys, its helped me out a lot.

so it isnt possible for you to just put black tint over the reflective windows?I figured if you put black tint over the reflective windows it would even out. I know this is pretty irrelevant since my back windows were black but all i did was add 13 all around and now the back is limo tint and the front is just 13%.

Can you not get bronze tint?

I know there are smoke, charcoal, and bronze tint colors. The bronze may not be reflective like the factory, but you may be able to get it close. It looks like LLumar makes a bronze tint in three %s.

Also, is your Q a sandstone beige color? That is the only color I would think the "gold" tinted side windows would look good on.

My QX4 is gold on the outside and gold leather on the inside. The back windows are gold color and the trunk window colors are silver, both windows having the reflective color. If i tinted the windows out without any special tint, then all the windows would have a different shade of black which would look weird.

If you want shop to do the job, you can ask them to hold films of various clolors on the windows. There might be some combinations that would satisfy you with minimum sacrifice.

I had the shop only tint the moon roof glass. Since it is up there, I didn't even think about matching all other windows.
