I'm looking to tint my windows, I have an 09 G37x with factory navigation installed, the tint shop that im looking to get the windows tinted at has a carbon film and a high performance film the carbon film is 20 dollars more expensive than the high performance film the guy at the shop said that the high performance film is metalized and that it can affect my navigation system and my radar detector. the next tint shop i went to said that it was just the shops attempt to sell a more expensive film thats why they said that a difference of 20 dollars doesnt matter that much to me if its gonna mess up my navigation which would not be cool. also one tint shop only has 15% or the other has 20% or 25% if anyone has any of these tints please let me know what ur experience is with them and if you have high performance film and a navigation system does it mess it up? thanks guys

Unless they are tinting the front windshield, it won't do anything. Metallic tint shouldn't affect anything.

I think you'll be fine...sounds gimmicky to me. You have a roof mounted antenna for GPS NAV anyway...As for the radar detector, you're not doing the windshield right? I don't see how it would affect that either.

do you mean sc as in south carolina. i dont know about the plates issue, but the police in greenville, sc where I live really don't care about how dark you have it. The problem might be when you go back to NY

It should not affect your Nav system. Modern gps antennae have been placed inside of globe boxes and still work fine. I have a portable nav in my other car which often sits on the floor unused and updates with no problems. If you apply film to the back window or front sides you may have a very slight decrease in radar detector performance from what I have read about detectors mounted too high on the windshield aiming at stock tint looking forward.

As far as percentage of tint I would get the darkest that you like that is still legal in your location. Keep in mind that a few other places may not allow it such as some locations at airports.

alright thanks guys im gonna go 15% all the way around and the strip on the windshield and my radar detector is low on my windsheild so i should be okay there and it seems like my nav wont be affect so im gonna just put the high performance film on it which is metalized soo thanks guys very much for your help.

The radar issue is one that I think is probably real but with the exception of the front windshield probably not all that much of a factor in actual practice with maybe the exception of a cop being on your backside. I have thought the best way without be one of the detectors with external sensors.

As far as 15% to me the issue would be if you are setting yourself up for getting pulled over more often and then getting a ticket depending on the local regulations dealing with transmission. You could always borrow if needed for something like the airport. Some of the airport regulations deal with where the car is parked and how the passenger pickup and delivery is handled.
