window switch question

so i got my 96 240sx while back but havent drove it yet jus been fixing it up and the window switch was jus gone when i got it and they had a wire ran from one of the pin's in the plug to another and if i dont have it in my gauge lights dont work, is it like this or do i have a electrical problem? do i gotta buy a window switch to fix this?

Its possible you eliminated a ground for the cluster or something along those lines, but if the question is "is this how it came from the factory" no. I don't think so.
