So I have a 96 240sx that seems to have quite a bit of issues. I'd like to get this thing in perfect running condition before summer since I'm going off to college and this will be my last time messing with it for maybe a few years. First issue is the windows. The driver side window has always gone DOWN just fine. It doesn't always go up, but if I bang the door panel a few times then try, it works. Other issue is the passenger window. Since I bought the car I've only been able to control it from the driver side controls. Now those finally crapped out on me. It never went down slow or made weird noises or anything so idk I'm guessing the motor is done.

I'd like to get the passenger one done first considering my driver side door is STILL locked shut (2 months now) and I'm going to cut the door panel off. If I do need a new window motor how much are the new/used?

Thanks in advance

I am looking for a passenger window motor also, and from what I've seen they are running $65ish used and up to $90 new. Good luck!

if banging on the panel makes the window work, i guess its the switch or wiring. pop the door card off and bypass the switch to see is it goes up and down reliably.

Is there any way to narrow it down a little bit? How should I go about bypassing the switch?

run wires from the battery to the window motor. chances are, your amp is shot. since it's a 96, the amp is integrated into the switch, so get a new switch. pop the driver side switch out and pm me some pictures of it, i think i have a 96-98 switch that i'll give you for dirt cheap.

this may sound dumb but it fixed my Camry that had a similar issue. Window would go down but would not come back up..
I gave the window a little assistance and pulled up on it while holding the power switch up, after it reached the top i still held the button and the motor kept going for about 5 more seconds then stopped. Since then I have not had any issues with it :)
