winding up noise

first post on the pathfinder forum. tried using the search bar for some info but had no luck. my 2005 pathfinder basically has a winding up noise everytime i accelerate. just wondering if this is a sign with the engine? i take it to be serviced every 3 to 4,000 miles. any help would be much appreciated.
