My number one pet peeve with older cars is wind noise from air leaking around the door seals - especially cross breezes. And my Q whistles on highway - I hate it, but don't know how to fix it.

The front *corner* at the front of the door where the glass meets the panel is the primary noise area. I see the seal turns there. The seals are still soft and whole, but obviously collapsed.

Since it seems like a lot of us here are older car enthusiasts perhaps someone could shed some light on the situation for me - what can I do?

Replace the sagged door hinges [open the door and push up there should be no play] and install a new fresh surround seal..............unfortunately this is a serious job to replace the hinges and get them perfect without removing the fenders.

Took 4 techs an hour and lots of sweat plus various jacks to do the hinges...........not the correct way! Never again was there comment after we took another hour to get the door adjusted.

What year is your Q? If it's a 90 there was a TSB addressing the issue. Unfortunately it involves replacing the window glass and foam backing under the mirror. I have a copy of the TSB in a ZIP file if anyone has the web space to host it or want's a copy just email me... [email protected]

If it's indeed the seal, reconditioning it with some sort of rubber or plastic conditioner may help it swell a bit. I hear that Wurth products tend to make rubber parts swell.

Heath, have you performed the TSB on your cars. if so what were the results. What was cost of parts? is a thicker glass used in the repalcement?

I just tried adjusting the glass in my 1990 Q. My wind noise was coming from around the top front of the windows. I was pretty successful on the right, but on the left I succeeded in "moving" the noise from the front to rear of the glass. My technique was simply to loosen the adjusters and hold the glass up as tight as I could. It is not exactly a precision mechanism in there, but you may be able to get results by trying it. There is a diagram in the Body section of the manual.

It was done before I purchased Q1. I haven't driven "Q2" enough to be annoyed by the extra noise. I suspect it would be expensive since you's probably be replacing the front side windows.
