"Wind Deflector" looks like its actually blocking flow of air to air box

so has anyone removed the "wind deflector" yet? i know it was a recall that was put into place because cigs and "other hot materials" could work their way up into the filter box and catch the filter on fire, but come on.....sounds like a 1 in 1,000,000 chance to me.....i was thinking about taking it off because its only held on by the 2 clips that i circled in blue, and fastening a piece of mesh over the hole to prevent anything from getting up there. i mean it seems to me, that if anything, it just blocks air from getting up into the air box.

any thoughts on taking this thing off?



oh and as an FYI, i took off the air box and opened her up, removed the filter, and bugs and leaves still worked their way up there.....so it seems like the "wind deflector" doesnt even work that well

wouldnt mesh be just as restrictive as the " trash deflector" on your intake inlet
