I was wondering if this would work since a lot S13/S14s opt for Q brakes over Z brakes as a second option. Are they interchangable?? What parts would i need to install on a Y33? Any help appreciated. Im looking into getting new rotors and pads so i figured id look into this as well.

Yeah they'll work but theyre not really an upgrade for Y33 owners.. The Y33s already have 296x28mm front rotors and the larger vented rear rotors...

Best off with fresh rotors and pads.

so theres no increase in brake performance with the 4-piston caliper? Is there any other OE upgrade like maybe R33 or R34 calipers?

Not really, IMO. For the money you are best off getting good rotors and pads, and maybe upgrading to SS lines...

The stock Q brakes are pretty dang good!

Most premium car brakes [even Furd] for the last 18 years will out stop the tires from 80 mph at least in a single panic stop.

Always useful to look at tire rack tests of 50 mph panic stops and see the 5,10,15,20 even 25 foot warm wet difference in just tires brands and models.

I had a 100+ panic stop in the J and it blew my mind.I was glad I'm a seatbelt on kinda guy.I would have been glued to the steering wheel.

It impressed me.

And the dog made it to the side of the freeway alive.

The biggest improvement you can do to your brake system to shorten stopping distance is invest in the best tires.................I always get a laugh when some ricer pulls up with their big wheels, homemade painted calipers{or better yet, painted rear DRUMS} drilled rotors..... and cheap Kumblo tires!

To answer the question, yes they will work, as well as the R33's etc. I believe that you will need conversion lines, just like on an S Chassis though?? My question for the swap is whether or not to swap the BMC when doing this? I know that in an S chassis you should swap BMC's but not sure in the Q......

5th video down. You'll see that the stock rotors are designed to stop fast for one stop, after that they fade. Aftermarket are designed for consistency.

The 1990 Q stopped in under 129 feet from 60 mph with 170 treadwear index 215/65/15 Michelin tires which were worn to the nubs in 15,000 miles.

OEM fitment tires were always in the 170-200 treadwear range hard to find in aftermarket tires.

Todays tires in 15" might be lucky to stop in 140 feet with a wear index of 400. Wet stops will be significantly worse than dry.

If stopping distance is important you want the fastest wearing tires obtainable!!!!!!!!..................at least on the front.

Are you sure that's not backwards? I thought we had lots of threads talking about how good the OEM Q45 brakes are.

Unlikely that just substituting a drilled or a slotted oem sized rotor will make any measureable difference in stopping distances on the street period.

If the rotors weigh the same +- 5% all that will happen is the rotor temperature will track the mass changes.

It all depends on the friction vs temperature curve of the brake pads friction compound and how the compound smoothly transfers a thin film to cover the rotor...............without the film transfer to the rotor the clean rotor is just low friction cast iron.
