I would love to see Infiniti offer a manual trans for a M in the near future.

I think it would make the car come alive.

The manual mode has to much of a delay.

Maybe in 2011......

Im a huge fan of manual transmissions. Years ago I swore I would never buy an automatic. I cant stand the constant shifting, and hunting for gears, and I liked the immediacy of the power you get with a stick. That was until I moved to the DC area, and it used to take me 45 minutes to drive 8 miles to work...on the highway. I started to have issues with my left knee, and that was a deciding factor in buying a new car.

But I have to say, this is the best automatic transmission Ive driven. And the downshift rev matching is excellent. Ive never driven BMWs SMG, and I'd probably like that more, but I'd also be beaten to death with the M-car's suspension.

However, I think offering a stick is a great idea. On at least the M35, you could use a modified version from the G. Why not offer one? Whats the harm?

That will never happen, simply because this is a luxury sports sedan, not a sports car. The number of Ms they sell is already a low number and maybe only 5% of them would want a manual shifter - it just does not make sense financially for Nissan to do that. None of the luxury performance sedan offers a true manual transmission nowadays.

Plus, the M are a bit too heavy for a manual transmission....

The BMW 5 series comes with manual transmissions for both the 535 and 550.

I think he meant M35/M45. Not the M cars from BMW.

I guess what I was trying to say is: The M35/45's weight make its image not fit when matched with a manual transmission - just like the Q45 never seen a manual...

I gotcha....I personally will never have a 5 speed anything ever again because of my stupid knee. But it would be kinda cool if infiniti put out a Sport edition with more than just suspension upgrades. And a 6 speed manual from the GT-R would be smack daddy but not likely

I doubt that a manual will make it's way into any four door other than the G for a few reasons. The primary reasoning is BMW is the only luxury company that has any success with a large manual sedan, but it works for them. In 2001 Lincoln tried and failed at making a 4.6 mated to a 6 speed manual, and they tanked. I actually think something like a modified wet clutch style manumatic might make it's way over the fence.

Thinking slightly more long term Infiniti is working a more performance based "hybrid" that actually uses both an electric motor and conventional gasoline engine to provide maximum power on demand via a dual input clutch setup. (Click here for more info)

IMHO I think the manual transmission is going the way of the all other manual devices in your car.
