I think it would work, but you may need to wire the tachometer yourself.

Tach wiring is in place already. That is the SE cluster and has all the bells and whistles. There is a chance that not all those bells and whistles are plug and play though. It'll fit and might work on a minimal level. I wouldn't count on the secondary fuel gauge being plug and play though...or the volt meter.

I believe the sub gauge sending unit was nixed starting in 1988, at least on Pathfinders, so it's reasonable to assume the same for Hardbodies (see this thread on NPORA). No idea about the volt meter and other things, though.

I would agree, Nissan didn't keep the sub-gauge very long and it was only found in the top-of-the-line SE models.

what's the secondary full gauge for anyway?? there's one already but why is there two? i never heard of that on any car. I looked behind my cluster now and did not find a wire for the tachometer or the wire for the clock i saw your guys thread "D21 tach" and did not help me at all. like will it require some digging around to find those wires? like are all Nissan pickups from 1988 preinstalled with tachometer and clock wires??

The sub gauge reads from 1/4 tank down to zero. I guess to be more precise.

They are XE clusters. The early SE clusters had all the bells and whistles. Mine do not and I would say they are XE clusters.

Okay sorry haven't gotten back to you but here's something I need to show you i did not fine the tachometer wire nor the clock wire behind my cluster this is all i found i have pictures here down below:

I don't know if i will get your cluster with tachs yet, but i think the wires require more digging around? like it must be in there somewhere right? do you know anyone who had this problem before and then solved it?

Download the service manual for an 89 HB. Look up what color the wires are for the clock and the tach and see if they are present in any of your connectors. It's too big for me to try to download on my phone. But I'm pretty sure it'll be a white wire for the tach, although there are probably several white wires. I don't know which pin it would go to but if you had to you could run it from the ecu.

did you see the pictures? i only found three wires back there. I heard that the wire for the tachometer and clock is hidden is that true? or do you need to manually wire them up from the ECU box underneath the passenger seat?

I don't know if the wiring will be there or not. Mine came with a tach and a clock. If I were you I'd try to find one in a junk yard so you can get the plugs just in case. Then i can tell you how to wire it to make it work. There are a couple different diagrams in the FSM depending on the equipment options.
