Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and wanted to find out an answer for the question I have...

I parked my car (05 G35 auto) and tried to shift my gear to "P". Somehow, while I was trying to do that, the shifter slided to manual mode and got.... stuck! (-_-) It won't shift out from manual mode.... car basically thinks that it is on neutral.... lmao...

So I got my car towed to the nearest dealer (Cerritos Infiniti in CA). Service rep. says they will have to take a look at it to determine whether it will be covered under powertrain warranty or not..... I hope it is... otherwise, I will be paying $$$ for something that can possibly be fixed easily....

So my question is, what do you guys think? I don't know exactly what the problem is... (possibly some sort of mechanism right under the shifter is blocking the shifter itself to shift back to auto mode when it is not supposed to?) It is not like this is due to my negligence or abuse.... shouldn't it be covered? What will be the good argument to give to the dealer to convince them?

there is a simular if not exact post with this same problem... if i remember correctly it was a piece that broke under the shifter that kept his car from going into park and stays in manual mode just like you described... its suppose to be a easy fix...

it also could be what ever sensor that detects if you have the brake depressed that is keeping you from going into park...

your transmission is part of your power train... i see no reason why it shouldn't be covered if you not out of warranty and there is no neglect.
