Looking into a Supra MKIV board, I've stumbled upon a thread asking the following:
http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showth ... ar-one-day

- Do you think the Supra will be consider a collectors car one day?

- Do you think the car would preserve its value well over time?

- Do you consider the car to be a good store of value relative to other sports cars?

- Are you more willing to spend money on the car as a result of the anticipated future value?

- How do you think the value of the Supra will change in the next 10 years?

Discuss the same questions...but for our Z32.

The Z32 will be a classic GT car when in hits 25 years, plain and simple, all the other questions are those of taste. If I was filthy rich and found a PERFECT TT sometime down the road or today i'd be all over it, and I'd pay the premium but this is all because I love Z32s on the other hand, no matter what anyone says or think I would NEVER own a road runner or a dart, they are classics and go for ridiculous money but have no appeal in my eyes.

To those of us who respect and love the Z32, we already know it will be a classic car, even if it is just for a small group of us. As for the money.....depends on what happens, like if its in the new F&F movie lol

Agree but will it be a classic enough to be sought after at a Barrett-Jackson auction someday for example?

i have no idea what are guidelines to consider a car a classic.

so in my totally uneducated guess, is that yes, they are very soon to be classics if not classic already.

i look at it from the point of view of looks. it just unmatched, and remains fresh up to this day, It turns heads every time, and some people simply won't believe that this car is as old and 22 years old.

Nissan did a very good thing with this car in design terms, and engine and everything really. You got a reliable engine capable of huge power. you got the looks. in my book this car is as close to a perfect package as they ever came. sadly somewhat unappreciated and overshadowed by other 90's japanese performance cars.

Good point. I guess you are talking about the RX-7 (FD) and Supra (MKIV). Especially the Supra that has probably reached "cult" status thanks in part to movies such as The Fast and the Furious. I mean, any Supra in top shape starts at 25K around here and you'll see much more folks gather around a clean stock or modified Supra than around a clean stock or modified 300ZX at any given car fanatic gathering. I see the madness that occurs when a guy pulls up in a Supra while my clean and stock 300ZX barely gets any notice except from other Z owners.
I guess the 300ZX is and will remain a classic for the fanatics that we are but I doubt it will become to the "masses" in 10, 15 years from now the cool '90s Japanese sports/GT car to own, this title will probably still be own by the Supra.

Legally? Yes, they'll reach classic status. Will they ever attain the collector status that Supras, FD3S, GTR's and NSX's enjoy? Nope. And I'm happy about that. Let them stay underrated. Means they'll stay nice and cheap. Kinda like what's gonna happen to the Genesis coupe vs the FRS.

Some candy for you guys... Crappy driver in a Z32TT continually reams a 350z around a track:

but could someone tell me why that happened? this cars where in the same level in those times am i right?

i could for example understand why a 3000gt front wheel drive would just be forgotten and not as popular ( which is as far as i know) , but you can't find a supra for example with an n/a for less than what? 12k, 15k? and maybe in not so great condition. that's excellent condition for a tt in our territory.

i just don't get it. I know they are some cons to z32's, but so do all the other legenday 90's japanese sports cars.

Well, really... The Supra should be the only JDM car drawing direct comparisons. Similar weight class, traditional engines types, same FR drivetrain layout... This is just my opinion, but I think the Supra is more popular for 2 reasons:
-the difference in working space under the hood. The Z32 scares ppl off as soon as they pop the hood.
-power production potential of the motor. Both are 3.0T twin turbos capable of 500hp on stock internals but the Z doesn't have the reputation of bunches of 800hp to 1200hp cars running the streets like the Supra does.

And some ppl are turned off by all the Z creases and lines versus the flowing smoothness of the Supra's exterior. Both are beautiful to me.
