Hey all, I am new here and I have a question. Will the engine out of an Infinity J30 directly swap into a NA 93 300zx? I know that it's almost the same engine, just like the Mark VIII and Cobra engines in a Ford, but I want to be sure. I can find J30's cheap, but not 300zx engines.

It should work, they both use the VG30DE. The J30 only makes 210hp, so there is a difference somewhere, may VVT.

I was looking at a 94 J30 yesterday looking to get its Alternator and the only difference I noticed was the way air gets to the motor much smaller airbox and filters single intake in from front of car that alone could account for the 12 HP decrease.

Yes it will work fine, you have to get it down to a long block and use everything from your Z, You also need to use the oil pan and pickup from your Z as the J30 has the front subframe in a different possition. While you're at it if it's a used motor change the cam, crank and rear main seal... Oh and swap the exhaust manifolds, and upper intakes obviously. Also change the oil filter mount, you'll need to make a tool that looks like a broad flathead screw driver to remove the sleave for the filter mount to use on the j30 block. I think thats it, It's been a few years...
