Break the window...? It seems someone would be a lot more inclined to bust out the window and just hop in being that the car is already running.Ferguson wrote:If the doors were locked, how could they get in?
The VQ in my coupe is ridiculously loud.jaxcoupe wrote:The engine is just too dang quiet! lol
I don't see the problem here - add a warning or something before cutting the engine. Some of the high-end luxury cars will flash a warning before cutting power to the engine after several miles, giving the driver ample time to pull over.Curtieson wrote:Anyway, no...it won't shut up...think of it the other way, if your car thought it was in park but you were driving (things get old...the computer goes bad) you would be driving no problem as the transmission would be just fine...then would would you want your car shutting off after 5-10 mins while you were doing 70 on the freeway? Hell No...
Well... okay... but that is an extreme condition. Many people start their cars in cold weather and lock them while they warm up for a few minutes. I do it too in certain conditions. If the car is locked, your insurance will cover you, so no issue. But I'm a bit surprised that you can walk away from your car and not know it is still running! Either you are in a very noisy area, or... you need a louder exhaust!gearhead05 wrote:Break the window...? That's different. The engine is not running. The battery-save feature shuts down the ACC after about 5 minutes.t0e wrote:the car shuts off when you put the car in acc ( when you just want the radio on and not the engine) i've tried this a couple of times just sitting in my car for a good 2 hours with just the radio on it will eventually just turn off.
I didn't read any responses to this yet but here is my response.Last week, Friday, I wanted to get a car wash. I get my car hand washed at a local place. The key was left in my pocket and the people washing my car could move it a few feet away from me. The people washing my car stepped out of the vehicle and continued to wash. When it came time to bring it inside the part where they hand dry etc, they had to move the car again. The car was never turned off by human hands but in fact had turned off by itself during the wash! I thought it to be an amazing precaution. Of course, one of the guys acted like it happens all day, he just called out to me "Key please." Lol. So yea, I wouldn't be TOO worried if your doors are locked and you forgot to turn your engine off.gearhead05 wrote:You go a certain distance away from it with the key fob? I ask because I went to Starbucks the other day and I didn't realize until I went to leave that I had somehow forgot to turn the engine off when I got out of the car. I just got out, locked my doors and went inside.
This made me feel very uneasy. Granted, I could see my car the entire time I was in there, but what if I had done it while I was at work and couldn't see my car? Someone could have hopped in my car and just drove off. If you leave the engine running, will it ever shut off if you get too far away from it?
Haha yeah I know, I felt like a complete idiot when I realized it. And there was a car parked right in front of me that was running and was pretty loud when I got out which I guess is why I didn't realize I left my car on. Really odd since this is the first time that I have ever forgot to turn off my car. I never even forgot when I first got my car.Ferguson wrote:

true but the problem is as long as they know where they want to take the car they dont care....theyll just go right to the chop shopjaxcoupe wrote:Yeah, the car will still drive if you take the key away, but once you turn it off you won't be able to turn it on again without the key.
