will sr20det pass emission test in wi?

I LIVE IN WISCONSIN. I HAVE A 95 240SX. I'M CONTEMPLATING A SWAP FOR AN SR20DET, BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHETHER AN SR20DET WILL PASS EMISSION TEST IN WISCONSIN.

I'm just going to be the jerk here that says "SEARCH" because it has been discussed a bit. It has better emissions than the KA if you keep the cat if I'm not mistaken but if Wisconsin has a visual check then you might run into some problems. Also it depends on the year of your car, if they check the ecu (OBDII) then they will probably notice something's not right.

No it wont, SR20DET wont pass emission anywhere, it wasnt offered here in the states so no emissions systems are on it to meet the US laws. You will fail visual inspection anyway.

There is no emissions test in wisconsin at all. You can have whatever you want under your hood. Sorry for the late reply but I thought it might help.

not true, south eastern towns in WI have to go through a emission, just a smog one, there is no visual nor anything is asked about whats under the hood, they don't even look to see if u have a cat, or o2 sensors, they just put it on there lil tester deal and rev the car up for like 3 mins and thats it. "well for 1996+ years," thats how it works in kenosha, other than that i dunno if it will pass, just clearifiying that WI dose have emission testing . we all aren't hill billys as they are up north.

If anyone has passed WI emmissions with an sr20 please let us know. However, if you want to get out of emmissions, WI only cares were the car is kept, not where it's registered. My brother's car is registered in Waukesha (which requires emmissions) under my dad's name, but since my brother lives in Madison (no emmissions) he didn't have to get it tested. You just have to take it to a far away DMV and tell them you keep the car there and not where it's registered. That's what I'm gonna do when the time comes. Hope this helps.

SE WI just has a sniffer test - as mentioned before. So - check with your local test station and see if there is a visual inspection. If there isn't then you (if you tune it properly and keep the cats etc...) you should be able to get it to pass.. However I've never palyed with trying to emissions certify a SR so I can't tell you for sure. -JinX

Sorry for the extremely late reply. It is illegal, but I passed emissions in wisconsin. I also passed visual inspection, since I didn't pass the first time they wanted to see if emission deivces were installed. They are dumb in Wisconsin.
