I will be reuniting with my 96 S14 in about a week. I've got bigger rims, so I need to lower the car. I eventually want to put coilovers on it, but the money isn't quite right. So basically I want the car temporarily lowered for the summer. My car has about 150,000 on it, but mostly highway miles. If I just put lowering springs (say 1.8 inches each way), will I severely harm my car (ie. tire wear from the uneven camber, blowing out a strut) within around 4K miles!?? The roads in DC aren't the best, but MD and VA are ok.

If not, does anyone have a rough estimate as to how quickly (rough milage estimate) lowering springs might mess up a ride in these ways?

I apologize if there is an answer to this in a thread..... but thread titles are so crappy these days on NicoClub. Still, Nico rules.

Thank you

Alex

P.S. rims going on soon

Normally, the lower or stiffer the springs, the faster your stock shocks will wear out. If theyre already in bad shape, I wouldnt add very low or stiff springs.

Maybe you should just put up with some wheel well gap, save the $250, and get coilovers ASAP.

Ah! Wheel well gap in my opinion just looks so bad, and would make me even more of a ricer than I already am. I couldn't stand it, even for the summer. Someone tell me that springs would be ok for this short amount of time, so that I can feel a bit reassured.

As for the tire wear thing... If the minimal amount of negative camber put in by lowering your car is causing uneven wear, you aren't driving the car nearly hard enough to warrant lowering it.

I had eibach sportline springs on my first S13. It had about 130k on the odometer. I was still in school and broke. I kept the stock shocks on. It drove fine for about a year before I got rear ended by some dumb lady. But also remember this car wasn't driven hard most of the time.
