Will RUCA's take me out of DSP???? (D Street Prepared)

All over the world, Nissan products are involved in road racing, track days, time attack and autocross.

Hello guys and girls!

To give you a little background, I've got a '92 240sx coupe that I've run at two SOLO events this year (OKSCCA).I'm in need of some assistance in what class I should register my car in...The first time out I didn't have time to do much research, so I entered my car in SM (Street Modified). This last event I entered in DSP (D Street Prepared), but I might have been illegal...The rules for Street Prepared read like this:

"On all forms of suspension, camber/caster adjustment withinfactory specifications may be achieved by the use of shims oreccentric bushings. The intent of this allowance is to permit carsto be restored to within factory-allowed specification ranges, notto provide an additional method beyond those permitted in Section15.8 to obtain alignment settings beyond the factory specifications."

So I'm assuming that since I'm running specs outside of factory settings that this will push me up to the SM class???Can you guys help???

This is my car:92 coupeStance coilsPowerslot rotorsHawk HPS padsSPL RUCA'sS15 Helical16x8+15 with 205/50's

Rear: Camber -2.0 Toe 0

The way I read that; yes, it would throw you out of DSP. But I am by no stretch good at deciphering legalese.I would imagine even if you were in factory spec they are illegal, since they are not a shim or eccentric bushing. IIRC they replace the rubber/poly bushing with a spherical end-joint? I know they guy that won STS (For got his name, jay something or some thing J. ??? He has posted hear some) last year had a set of custom adjustable control arms made, that used a factory style bushing. I forget if it was front or rear though. . .

End result is though; I bet they are illegal. Do to the "If it not specifically allowed, then it is not allowed" rule. Since it is not an eccentric bushing or shim then it is not allowed. But I could be wrong. . .

Thanks Slappy, but that forum is about as slow as molasses...

I just wanted to make sure I'm reading the rules right... I registered as SM for this event...I'm going to try out my new camera mount too. I'll post videos on here. Thanks!Kevin

Replacing OEM suspension components with adjustable ones is illegal in Street Prepared, however, it's legal in ST if you retain rubber/ urethane bushings.

If you didn't have RUCA's that used spherical bearings, you would be STX legal (which allows mechanical diffs and wheels up to 8.5" wide, tires up to 245 wide). Unfortunately there isn't much linearity in classing, atm, so your car jumps up to Street Modified.

Thanks for the clarification...It sucks, but I'll have fun regardless of what class I'm in...

I just wish more of the local 240 guys would go out so I can have some more linear competition...Last time I was in SM class there was a Dinan BMW 5-series there with about 400-500hp

I'll let you guys know how it goes this Sunday. Hope to have some incar vids of the action!!! L8RKevin

Power is over-rated in autocross. There's a reason that tiny 100hp Miatas do so well.... just drive smooth, keep your head up, and use the "slow in, fast out" approach. You should find yourself having a much easier time keeping your line, feeling like the limit of the car is a bit further off, and with times lower than you thought. Overcooking turns and getting off-line is the biggest thing that seperates newer drivers from more experienced ones.

Hope that helps!! Go kick some BMW *** :P

Had a great time yesterday!Weather was almost perfect! Nice and cool in the morning and turned out to be about mid 70's in the afternoon!

It was a relatively small turnout with about 65 entries (the usual size is around 90). Two heats. The runs went quick which made it fun.I ran in the afternoon.First runs were in the SM class (I was the only entrant).Cut a 49.xxx the first time out.47.7 with a passenger the second time out45.3 the third time out by myself. (It ended up being the best run of the day, I think...)Then 45.7(I might have remembered the numbers wrong, I'll have to look at the videos)

I changed my dampening (dampener?) settings from 6/4 up to 8/6 for the PAX Tire runs.My first run was ok, but the last three turned out crappy... I was driving the car too hard. This was my first event to hit cones too! I've been to three events and ran the car about 20 times and have only hit 2 cones total! Kinda proud of that.

The course was mildly complicated and it was a blast! I got videos of all 8 of my runs. They should be posted up tonight.

Congrats on your first cone! Definitely get the videos up. Watching them can sometimes help point out ways you can improve for the next time around.

As for driving too hard, I'll say it again:Quote »Overcooking turns and getting off-line is the biggest thing that seperates newer drivers from more experienced ones.[/quote]Be patient, keep your head up, and your times will drop even more.
