I have an 08 M35 with no Nav that I'm going to be installing navigation into soon with OEM parts. I was told that the DVD or HDD control units would work in the 08 so I'm with the DVD unit since its been so difficult to find an HDD one for a good price. I also wanted to do the Nav hack and decided to just use the Prestigious Society system since I'm not to confident in soldering. Anyone know if the Prestigious Society system would still work with DVD unit or do I have to get an HDD unit in order to us it.

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure, but I know many here have DVD bypasses, so I'm sure someone will chime in shortly.

Welcome to NICO. According to the Prestige website, they make a unit for the 06-07 M35/M45 models. I'm assuming that is the NAV system you are installing, You also must have the DVD player in the console that came with the 06-07 models.
The only trouble I can see is that the 08 model M's, since they are wired and designed for the HDD systems, might not be compatible with the older DVD driven NAV systems. In the least, I reckon the wiring harness for the 08 with factory NAV is different than previous models and the prestige unit for a DVD driven system will not work with the 08 factory harness. As you know, our cars are extremely complex in that each system in these cars is not usually a plug-and-play factory add-on, but react and communicate with other systems in the car. Therefore, using an older system that was not designed for an 08 might not be compatible or might cause issues with other systems that are wired and designed to communicate with other systems in the 08 model year. Seems like a huge risk. I recommend you use the NAV system designed for the 08 and the prestige unit designed for the 08.

So apparently I got the wrong info as the guy you told me that the DVD units would work thought I would be installing it into an 07. Might just have to scratch this project all together. Thanks for the info.
