I found someone selling new wheels and tires from a FX35. The only problem is if the stock tires, 265/60/18, will fit on my '92 Q45?

I think I can fit a 265mm wide tire in the rears. But what kind of problems will I have in front with such a wide tire. Though not ideal, what if a put a small spacer in the front? How about the height of 60mm on a 18" wheel? Is there no way the front tire will have enough clearance?

I guess I can always buy a different set of tires for the fronts, but I already have a set of almost new 235/45/17 Nitto that I already can't use because of the 93W load rating.

a 265/60-18 overall diameter is 30.52"

That is SUV territory. Also very 'new' size, rare and very high priced.

If you were able to use the 253/45-17 tire, it's OD is 25.33"

A massive difference.

Our Tire Rack sponsor has excellent info for fitment and "plus-sizing" for your Q

It'll look like a truck with that size tire. And your power will be history.

Perhaps with some 235/40/18 tires... ?

I'd keep looking for som G35 or Q take-offs.

I guess I could always try to sell the tires and keep the wheels. However it's really the tires that I was looking for.

Smith- what would the massive difference drive like? Will my Q drive like a SUV?

Am I trying to fit a "round peg into square hole?". It's just the asking price is such a bargin and I'm sucker for a bargin.

The tires are 18's, right? Do you currently have 18" rims? If not, the tires will do you no good.

Either way, your Q will look ridiculous with 31" tall tires.

Hey Hitman-

If it's going to look like a truck, which I guess I knew it would, and I'm going to lose my power, I got to be less obessive.

I'm just being cheap and was trying to get some new tires with a high enough load rating at bargin price. Very hard to find.

LOL - I know the feeling well, my friend.

What size rims do you have? If they're 17's, go get yourself some Falken/Kumho/Conti 245/45/17's.... Put your 235's on eBay...

They're a set of new FX35 wheels and tires off a new Inifiniti for about $500. I already have almost new set of 17's in "black chrome" or gunmetal silver that I'm happy with. The problem is that the Nitto NT555 have a load rating of 93. I also have a set of 245/50/16 with a 96V rating that where on the Q when I bought it. The problem with them is that they are old and have some cracking on the side walls.

You know the obsessive feeling? Right now I ignoring my "frisky" girlfriend in the other room. She just recently stop shouting, "I've lost my boyfriend to a Q45!"

I'm going to try to get to her in a moment, because I think I'm going to make her go with me to and look at those FX 35 wheels tomorrow.

The maximum unloaded rolling diameter I have ever seen work on a Q is 27.1" [vs oem 26"] some of our customers run 235/60/16 on 16x 7.5" wheels [Michelin MXV4 plus SE for interstate cruising]......they barely clear third link and there is some front scrubbng of fender well at full lock.

Unless you are going to redesign the front suspension this is the limit in TOTAL diameter

Thanks Dennis- your numbers should put an end to my delusion ever using the whole set up. Though someone who wants some OEM 18" 7 spoke wheels can get them on the cheap if they are willing to sell off the tires.

What do you think posses the greater chance for a unwanted blow out?

1) The 245/50/16 Yokohoma S306's with 96V load rating, 13,000 miles, but where purchased new on 02/12/2001 and have some slight cracking on the side walls because the car sat around alot ..... or

2) The 235/45/17 Nitto NT555 with 93W load rating, are about 1 year old and have about 8,000 miles on them?

I won't be driving too aggressively until I upgrade my suspension which I'm planning to do within a couple of months.

Don't have a clue about tire reliability. Normally the tire with the highest load index is stronger in the same speed rating .......at under 100 mph either V or W is the same.I would chose the 16" over the 17".

But then again I never use tires more than 2 years.

How's that for a wishy washy answer.Never seen either of these brands/models.

Within reason that is: 2 year old Michelins Pilots are probably better than brand new Dunlop D60's..

Wishy washy, maybe, but still very helpful.

I'll put the 16" back on because they still feel more stable compared to my 17", even with my worn out suspension. I'll try to get an honest opinion on the cracking rubber from a tire shop for hopefully a little more peace of mind. The 17" will go back on my '90 Maxima until I can get some proper tires suited for the Q.

The recent post about the blow out and "totalled" Q, got me to check to the load index on 17" more carefully. I neglicfully assumed that they had a high enough load index for the Q because they are Z rated tires. Thanks to NICO, I may be obsessed, but hopefully, I and my car have a longer life to feed my addiction.

Hey Fred,

Thanks for your opinion. The Yoko's are relatively new, under a year old with no visable signs of improper wear or age. But what about the 93 (1433lbs.) load index compared to 96 (1521lbs.) load index. I know both under par in regards to safetly, but in your opinion the 93 (17") are less of a risk as the old age of 96(16").

The 17" diffenately look better, but I can live without them for awhile if they is a clear safetly difference.

In most of Europe/Japan if you used an underrated load index they could confiscate your car and tow it on the spot. The fine would be more than a new set of Pilots and you would have to change to suitable tires in the impound lot..................the load index is the critical item.
