Hey all,

Will a M56 2011 screen fit an 06 M35x?

I totaled my M56, wondering if I could put it into my M35x?

Please let me know!

Also wondering if th wiring and or harnesses will work also?

Thx!

Probably no. Different dimensions and different interface being a touchscreen in the 2011.

Is the m56 not fully insured? It's unlikely the insurance company will let that slide.

Correction/ Addition:
Actually, they both come with 7-inch and 8-inch screens for the higher trims. I thought maybe the screen aspect ratios were different, but now I'm not sure.
They both have 24-pin plugs, laid out in pretty much the same manner. Although the "brains" of the systems might be feeding slightly different kinds of info.

At this point, you would be our guinea pig. Do you mind experimenting and letting us know?
I'm sure the M35/M45 crowd would like to know too.

I can tell you how to definitely do it on the 06, but I haven't done it on the newer models. It shouldn't be all that different, but it would be best to check in the FSM.

This video was very helpful. Thank you

I only have 1 question. How do I get USB connectivity? My 11 M56 I totaled that I want to swap it out of, had USB, this one doesn’t, I can add the slot somewhere that’s not a problem, but how do I run the wiring? And where do I connect it into? Does it input from the screen?

I'm wondering ... If the M56 was totaled by the insurance company, you probably signed the title over to them so how will you gain access to the car?

This does NOT work! :(

The screens are the same size,

The inputs on both of the back of the units are both a 24 pin, and there is a separate small brown plug, which I believe is for the speaker on top of the screen.

The M56 had a 4 pin small brown plug, the M35 small brown plug was 2 pins.

But the problem was when we connected the M56 screen it kept blowing out the fuses. I believe it was a 10 fuse, he tried to put 15, but same problem.

We then took the 24 pin plug and all the wires attached to it from the M56, he tried to splice and give power to the screen by attaching them onto the M35 harness/ 24 pin plug.

There were many wires inside the M35 harness, the M56 didn’t have as many wires.

He spent quite some time trying to get this to work...

If you are blowing fuses, it is not a good idea to simply put in a larger fuse. This usually means you have a power and ground wire going incorrect places, which would mean the wiring does not match up between the models. While power consumption will probably be different between the models, it should only be a few watts difference at best and if anything the newer model would draw less power as backlight tech has gotten better. Not enough of a difference to warrant a fuse size change.

I’m confused on the point of this? Even if you use a M56 screen the m35 has different graphics? So I don’t think using a m56 will give you the updated m56 graphics because the m56 is a hard drive 06 m35 is dvd and older graphics.
