I am looking at putting some stock 2006 19" M35/45 wheels on my 2004 FX35. Both vehicles have the 5x114.3 bolt pattern, however my FX35 has an offset of 40 and the M35/45 has an offset of 50. What does this mean as far as fitment; with a higher offset, will the wheel stick out further? Is +10 a major deal? Would anyone else do this, or is this a completely stupid idea?

I would strongly recommend not doing this. The higher number (50mm) actually means it sits further in - offset is measured from the centerline of the rim to the hub mount position. A larger number means that the centerline is farther "in" (since the hub of the car is in a fixed location).

I suspect this would probably touch suspension components. Or, even if the rim works, when a tire is mounted, it may well cause problems with contact (for example on turns). Particularly with low aspect ratio tires on 19" or 20" rims for example - where some of the error cannot be taken up in the tire profile.

Yes, the difference between 40 and 50 seems nominal, but you have to also take the rim width, tire width, section width, profile, etc., etc., into account.

A professional tire place can also do a fitment test for you too - and not just up on the lift when the suspension is unloaded (i.e., lower it and see).

Standard 10mm spacers can be used to move the wheels out a bit. If you want them to stick out more, then increase the thickness.

50mm offset -10mm spacers = 40mm offset.

Just find some 20" FX rims and be done with it, not worth it to do the m rims.

"Spacers are evil" ... as I recall Grant at Tire Rack saying once (although I may be misquoting him)!

So, I'd follow Jeff's advice and get the 20" FX rims!

I already have the 20's guys...I was trying to do something "different" than all the other FX's out there. Guess I'll be looking for something else. Does anyone know of any aftermarket wheels that look just like the 19 inch M wheel??

Just got buy some super high performance rubber. The FX comes with all weather tires that suck. You could totally change the ride provided your not into the 4 wheel drive capability and get YR rated tires in super low profile. That woudl make a huge difference.

Thanks, but I'm not trying to improve ride quality. I was just trying to put some different rims on the FX.

Doesn't the '06 Q45 Sport have wheels like the M Sport but in Q/FX-friendly offsets?

Or did they just use M wheels and change things on the Q to make them work?

(BTW, If the Q had looked like that in 2002, I'd bet money it would have sold better. That's one sexy beast.)
