Lets say you just bought a car from somebody who lives a good distance away from you, you put some spare tags you had lying around on the car just to drive it home. If you were in an accident on the way home and its completely %100 the other drivers fault, like say they just run into the back of you while your sitting at a red light an they get charged with a ticket and everything, would they still be responsible for paying for your car, even though the car you were driving isnt registered or insured. Would their insurance still have to cover it?

dont quote me, but i was under the impression that there was a 3 or 5 day period until you had to be registered and inssured... if you can show proof of sale, i think it might be fine

As long as I have full coverage on one of my cars, the insurance company gives me 30 days to insure it with them. They said its insured when I buy it for 30 days. I guess its assumed I'm going to have it insured by them with full coverage.

I don't know for sure but I think if you're not registered or insured you lose your rights in that situation when it comes to them paying for it. The best thing to do (well not best but an idea) would be to call an insurance company and ask them.

Hmm I know when my dad owned the dealership he couldn't let anyone drive off the property without proof of insurance.Tag would be fine however putting a tag from your car onto another car is against the law.So you will get in trouble there.Being registered yea you got a grace period(might change between states). But as the insurance is I don't know.
