Short story I blew ring lands so its being rebuild with Arias pistons.

We believe it was the SAFC since it didnt control timing (I was running 10psi) so I went and bought the Emanage Ultimate with main harness.

Originally I had the Emanage basic but the shop never could get it to work properly so we went with the SAFC.

My question is will there be any problems? I keep reading ppl have problems with the Emanage + KA and the basic was such a pain in the ***.

The car is also undergoing a manual from auto swap.

If anyone could supply me with tips or diagrams (ignition) control that would be awesome.

Thanks!

Where did you have your base timing when you blew the ring lands on 10lbs. Also how much did you run the car........ drag, autocross, drifting?

emanage has been covered to death..too much timing under lean conditions blow motors or in your case ring lands...

you need to start pulling timing when boost start to hit. the Emanage ultimate EMU. can do so..

its all about the tuning. some people didnt have issues b/c they didnt take the time to configure the EMU. set the basic permaters first then go on to tune..

you can work off your base map.. or make a whole new map. the EMU takes full control of timing. ect..

so in short if you spend the time it will work..

but honestly id save and get a aem its alot more compliacted to use but once you figure it out the gain are great.

I wouldn't use any piggyback for any more than a +- 5psi change in the engine.

Get a real engine management system if you want your motor to last.

I personally use a custom unit with a Power FC for the KAT and it's been working great. Stock internals, 8psi, 740ccs, over a dozen racing events, +100k miles.

Just shell out the dough for engine management (and some dyno time) otherwise you'll be rebuilding more motors.

OK...The piggybacks work fine. Using any type of standalone for 8 lbs of boost is...well IMO retarded. A bump in fuel pressure will damn near allow you to use stock injectors and no tuning for 8 psi.

The SAFCII and MSD BTM for timing work awsome, how do I know, I did it myself. Piggy backs have been used for years, cause they work and are fairly cheap and very easy to tune.

You just can't add boost to a motor without having a method to retard timing on boost.

The Emanage Ultimate is a really good piggy back system. It does everything you'll want it to, plus it controls the injector pulse width, not the MAF signal.

Almost everyone that's had problems with a piggyback setup has broken somthing do to user error. The key is to control timing and fuel, with that done you're basically octane dependant from there on out.

I will definetly second this post. Some of the bull**** that rolls threw my shop is a joke. Not just being incorrectly setup, but the installation itself is just as important as anything else. I had a Vaginatec come in last week, the guy says its running like poop. So I check a few things out, pull his kick panel and omg it looked like Ray Charles had installed his NEO. I told him it would be 3 hrs. to fix but it would be soldered in and that I recommended him to go get it dyno'd since he didn't have a wideband. Fixed all the wires and made some good grounds and omfg it ran like a champ. There's alot more user error failures than component failures. I had an oldschool HKS box, similar to the fisrt afc and a btm that I had on my s13 back in 97-98, ran 10 lbs of boost on just upped fp and that and the car was quick. That was before most people even had a clue about 240s, I never had any problems with it and it was stock blocked. Engines blow no matter how many miles or how built it is if you don't have a good tune and timing control, its a simple equation and if you slack in one aspect you will pay.

agreed, tuning is the most important part of a setup..............
