My O2 sensor plug got melted by manifold so I think it is causing a short in the ground touching the manifold. The car was idling super low yesterday to the point that if I didnt modulate the throttle it would shut off sometimes at a stop. My buddy with an SR told me to cut the wires and make sure nothing was touching and see if that corrects the situation. he said not haing an o2 sensor on an sr doesnt really affect drivability, just wondering if not having the o2 connected will affect driving or performance? please let me know...

Yes, it will effect drivability but not to a point that it can't be driven, will most likely just make you run a little rich. With no o2 signal the ecu will stay in open loop mode and run off the baseline ignition and timing maps. So basically there will be no a/f correction through the ecu.

I unplugged my O2 once. The FSM says that to test the O2 sensor, unplug it and see if it idles better. I unplugged it, forgot, then tried to drive. No go. It bucked and popped and wouldn't respond to throttle inputs until I plugged it back in.

Yea, for some reason the CA's 8 bit ECU relies very heavily upon the O2 sensor. It's hit or miss whether or not the car will still be driveable w/o it. Mine ran fine, just very rich, but I've heard of plenty of other people who had problems trying to run w/o one.

Mine runs fine without one as well, just a little rich.
