No that is not his problem. The problem is that he put a wheel that has a huge offset. here's the break down on that.
Stock wheel (3.5 SE) is 17x7.5 +45 offset. Your wheel is 20x8.5 with +42mm offset
Diameter:
17" vs. 20" = Not really a factor as the diameter doesn't make a big difference unless you run something crazy like 24" wheels
Width:
7.5" vs.8.5" = that's only 1 inch bigger than stock (1/2" on both side)
OffSet:
This is the key here. Stock is +45. Everyone here is trying to achieve a "flushed" look so if you place a tape measure on the front edge of the rim and you look straight down the fender and run a level line from the fender down to the tape, you'd see the actual distance. Offset is the distance (front or back)from the center line of the wheel. Keep in mind that 25mm is approx. 1 inch. With that said, a wheel that has a 42mm sticks out only 3mm more than 45mm The most anyone should go is +30 (15mm from stock) to avoid rubbing the fenders. In which case you can either roll the fenders, get a wheel that has a lesser offset, or place a smaller size tire to "stretch" the tire on the rim.
