As the title says, will it work without the hud portion? I like the digital cluster, but I don't want the hassle of swapping the glass, dash, or cutting holes in my perfect dash. I hear alot of the huds break down anyways.

I've searched, but frankly, there's way too many pages to search through and too many asking the opposite question. I know I need a one from a DOHC since I have a 91 fastback. There's also a harness I need to get. What else???

Yes, it will work. No harness required unless you're using the HUD unit.

Yes it will work and YES you need the subharness that goes from the cluster to the dash harness. Don't listen to him. ^^^

Bump for a second question. Where does everyone go for theirs? Besides the the classifieds here and the junkyards (240's on the east coast are pretty rare). How safe is ebay? I've never shopped there, just browsed. I found a couple there, but its a private sale. And the dude only sold several things so far and he has like 3 or 4 of the digital clusters in his pics. IDK it just looks fishy to me to see one guy have several of something that is suppose to be rare. Or am I a newb thinking this cluster is rare

Hard to find at the most, def. not rare. I bought mine off here. I see them on local forums every couple months.

Digital cluster is not reliable, so it'll go bad sooner or later. It's hard to find one in working condition from the begin with.

Did you just say 240s are rare on the east coast? lol. Dude go to a junk yard or check out our classifieds, definatly not a rare part at all. I wouldnt go with the digital though, i just personally dont like it and i havent heard good things about these.

Maybe in NY, but here in Fayetteville, NC not so much. I've been to every junkyard in town, and I've done part searches online in the southeast region- nothing (looking for other things for it). As a matter of fact, every so often my POS 240 gets offers from some deperate soul wanting it. My car is far from stunning. That tells me its rather rare around here if it turns heads in its condition. But no I haven't checked the regionals here. I'll try that next...

As for the cluster's reliability, I've seen the threads. But hey, its a 17 year old car. What do you expect? I think there's a fix for every problem the car has. Its just a question of how much you can put up with it, and how much money you got to throw at it...

Again, with ebay. What's everyone's strategy for buying from there? The one I found yesterday seems too good to be true. And I'm 99% sure it is...

IF you buy a used one, you are taking chances. It will fail. Or you can buy a broken one, pray that is just the capacitor that is wrong with it and fix it. You can also buy a broken one super cheap and buy the module brand new from Nissan. That's what I ended up doing with mine.

Yes it will work and if you can try to get a clean uncut dash harness. I don't know why people cut the harnness when all you have to do is unplug it and then plug it back in. I did a hud conversion on my car and it was all plug and play i didn't have to splice any wire or anything i just pluged in the cluster harness into my at first non hud dash harness and boom everything works perfect.

Mine worked, but eventually went bad last week. I bought a new module($223) and it works like a charm. It should be good for the next 10 years or so. There are 12 new digital modules left in the world, so hurry up!!
