A buddy of mine needs a diff for his s14 and i have an extra parts s13 hatch sitting around that has a good diff. My question is simple will it fit his s14 without any modifications? For the record they are both open and not viscous.

Well, I believe all you would have to do is change out the rear cover. You may also want to check the 2 bolts that mount toward the front of the diff, there's issues w/ j30 stuff etc, don't know if that applies to the s13->s14 debaucal.

Lastly, you would only need to check the length (i.e. s14 may have abs which makes it longer, putting in a shorter diff may be a problem).

s14 -> j30 diff direct bolt-ons13 -> j30 diff - swap rear cover

soooo

s14 -> s13 - swap rear cover, verify bolts for front (should be same but I'm not 100% sure), and check length.

I remember something about the front bolts being different lengths. I dont remember which was longer/shorter, but the moral of the story is to reuse the original S14 bolts with the S13 diff.

Front bolts are different, and the overall length is different as well as the rear cover. It can be made to work.

ok..yeah it is a direct bolt on...the front bolts on non lsd are shorter.so just use the ones from the donor car.....the s14 has 2 bolts that hold the rear end to the crossmember..the s13 uses 4 so you have to swap the rear cover..might as well change the fluid at the same time since it is a ton easier when it is out on the ground. it uses regular 80-90w gear oil...i believe the output shafts on the s14 are the same as the s13...the s13 uses 3 sets of 2 bolts.the same as 95-96 j30..the 94 and under j30 and 300zx uses a 5 bolt pattern ... if yours has the 5 botl pattern for some reason just use the axles out of the s13..they are the same length and spline pattern..just different output shafts....the non abs lsd is 3/4 of an inch shorter than abs but you should have enough slack in the mounts to bolt it up if you do have it..i have done about 6 swaps and havent had to change a drive shaft yet

what did you do about part where s14 diff uses bushigns in pipion end of the diff and s13 is jsut solid steel... it seems that if you just use s14 diff bolts on s13 case i may need spacers to compensate for lack of bushings.

how did you go about fixing this ?

the lsd should come with the spacers..that is what makes the bolts linger..the lsd has rubber bushings between subframe and ears on diff....non-lsd is just metal on metal
