Will an amp help get rid of distortion in my speakers? My speakers are brand new I dunno why they're sounding like that. 6.5 alpine they are. With new alpine head unit.

It all depends on the source of your distortion.

If it's coming from body panels, or reflection of sound off the interior of your car, then no.

If its Intermodal Distortion (IMD) due to the dopler effect of the cone moving, then no.

If it's caused by cone breakup or irregularities in sound coming off the surround or even reflected sound coming back through the cone, then no.

If it's due to the cone being pushed passed xmax from too much bass trying to be reproduced by a 6.5" woofer, then no.

If it's due to nonlinear movement of the soft parts (spider and surround), or a non linear BL, then no.

If it's due to the headunit being pushed beyond it's linear output limits, then yes.

What I'm saying is, there's no easy answer without you knowing what is causing your distortion, nor do we know. There's always "usual suspects", but you can never be 100% sure without taking measurements and trying various equipment.
