I've got a 2000 Q45 Anniversary edition w 108k mi. Has Xenons. Rt side low beam is out. Dealer (Swope Infiniti) says $267 per bulb plus $40 installation. Spec sheet says D2S is bulb size. I see about 5 different types of D2S bulbs on ebay but near as I can tell a Philips 85122 4300K is what Q calls for and they are $73 a pair delivered. Would dealer really be gouging that much or is ebay ad misleading?

To install rt side bulb it looks like battery would have to come out and then bulb socket comes out thru rear. There is a caution label that says: High voltage, disconnect power source before touching bulb. Does that mean disconnect battery? I'm pretty much all thumbs. Do you think this is a job for a novice or should I just suck it up and go to the dealer? Thanks.

Before buying the xenon bulbs you should switch them to see if the bulb is really bad. The xenon bulb usually will last longer than the car. Anyway, 99-01 Q's use D2R, not D2S (D2R is used for reflector headnight, D2S is used for projector headlight). D2R has a speciall paint stripe on the bulb to prevent glare. They also have different cuts on the base so a D2S won't fit into your housing unless you modify it.

$73 is a decent price. Replacing them is simple just like replacing regular bulb, a 10-minute job. You'll need to remove the battery to have access to the right side assembly though. No need to go to the dealer.

I took the air filter top off the right side and removed it but I can't get my hand in the gap to remove the bulb. Looks like the bottom of the filter box is held by four hex screws. Is there a trick to getting a little more room or should I take the bottom air intake loose. I'm concerned I'll damage a connection or lose a screw by tugging around too much. I'm pretty green, as you can no doubt tell, and any help is appreciated.

If you worry about damaging the wiring, just take the bottom half of the air filter box off. It'll only take a few minutes so it's better be safe than sorry.

I just dropped the headlights out of my wife's 2K FY33 and unplugged them. Never even bothered with air box that I can recall.

It's all in knowing how and I don't have a clue. I'm going to an independent shop and getting them to verify that the hid bulb is bad by swapping. Then I'll buy on ebay and go from there. A man has to know his limitations.

Maxnix were yours Xenons? Dealer here told me Xenons weren't available in 2000 but since mine has the orange caution stickers he said it was an option only on touring models.

Change dealer! All FY33 from 1999 on had HID.

Download FSM and TSB at http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/ for a one day subscription.

This is not something that requires a technician. Sorry my memory is so bad, but it is not difficult. Fog lights are even easier than G50 foglights.

Update. I got the 1 day FSM and was able to remove the bulb. It was shattered. I had to buy 2 D2R bulbs on ebay(used from an 02 Lexus IS300) total $96 so now I've got a spare for my wifes GS400. It was tricky for a hamfisted guy but I did it and it works. Thanks to all who replied. Dealer was going to be over $300 to replace so I'm way ahead of the game. D2R 85126 35w is definitely the bulb. The Infiniti site and the Advance Auto computer both say a 2000 Q45 calls for a D2S. Go figure...

Bulbs are a wear item. Remains to be seen how good the deal is.

Next time got to Sylvania online or Autobarn or another retailer and but new. At least you got it done.

The bulbs wil change color slightly as they wear, so best to replace in pairs if you are anally compulsive and desire an exact match in color temperature and intensity.

Maxnix I do appreciate your advice on the installation. I don't think I would have attempted it without your encouragement. As far as purchasing the bulbs, I'm satisfied with my $96/pr. from ebay. Autobarn is $389 a pair and you must buy 2. I paid less than 1/4 th that and since one is all I needed I have a spare. As the old cliche goes: All cars run on used parts.

Ouch! Haven't had to price them yet. D2R? For some reason I had assumed they were D2S. May I suggest headlight protection?

It would be really expensive if a rock took out the headlight and the bulb. One foglight (sure to be craked soon) costs more than the protection.
